At the rate the offense is progressing we may need a new OC/QB coach in the very near future.

You make a good point. Comparing the 2011 season (6-7) and this season (7-0 so far):

1. The defense is still iffy and receivers are still dropping too many passes; however, the difference is the big improvement is in the offensive play calling and improvement of Braxton Miller at QB. The OC/QB coach(es) may be a hot commodity after this season.

2. On the flip side, my guess is that due to the poor and/or inconsistant play of the defense, Luke Fickell's "stock" for a HC position my have went down. He was supposedly considered for a couple head coaching positions after last season. I doubt that he will get much consideration for a HC position after this season unless there is a drastic improvement in our defensive play in the remaining 5 games. Unfortunately I do believe that he is a pretty good coach. As Woody use to say "you win with people" and just maybe we don't have enough great players on defense.

How many starters and backups are injured on defense?

Off the top of my head, I know:

Armani Reeves, Nathan Williams, Etienne Sabino.....

Can someone with more knowledge compile a list?
Based on Coach Meyer's postgame news conference, I'll add Josh Perry, Cam Williams, Connor Crowell, Najee Murray, and Jamie Wood.

To be fair...

we need to be sounding the alarm to remove Herman too.. because the WRs drop too many passes.. and the offense sputters so often

(sarcasm font)

7-0 has a nice ring to it

I am.. sincerely pissed.. that I have lost almost all my vBucks on my boys

Ohio State football: Luke Fickell on fixing the Buckeye defense, taking heat and, yes, pizza

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After Ohio State gave up six touchdowns and two field goals in Saturday's 52-49 win over Indiana, the main topic at the Buckeyes' interviews today, with Urban Meyer, defensive coordinator Luke Fickell and the players, was fixing the defense:

"I'm not happy at all with what's going on on defense," Meyer said. "That includes players, coaches, and I think we can all get better. It's a team effort. We've got good coaches, good players and we'll move forward and get better."

? Meyer met with the defensive players and coaches on Sunday, which was the first time he has done that all year. That means this is serious.

"It was just shocking," senior cornerback Travis Howard said, "because everybody knows what we are capable of doing. And him just coming in there showed that we didn't do so great on Saturday. We definitely need to change and go out there and prove ourselves and practice like the Silver Bullet defense.

?After we had our meeting, he came in and talked to us, and once we saw him, we knew it was a big deal."

? Fickell talked about Meyer's greater involvement.

"He's come over more. But he's always been involved," Fickell said. "I think he has the ability to get over there and do motivational types of things and point out some things and make things uncomfortable at times, but that's how you grow. I think it's been a good thing and hopefully he continues to spend a little more time with us.

Just sayin': Needless to say Fickell is lucky to be working for a "quality" head coach like Meyer as opposed to a douchbag like Bielema.

Ohio State?s Urban Meyer publicly supported his defensive coaches this week, but there is no doubt he is studying the dynamics of this defense with an eye on the future, and coordinator Luke Fickell is central to that scrutiny.
The extent of Fickell?s culpability for the breakdowns is debatable. Injuries clearly have affected a unit that was supposed to be the team strength. But Fickell is the highest paid assistant on Meyer?s staff ? $750,000, in part for his willingness to serve as coach after Jim Tressel resigned in May 2011.
Fickell also has never had the responsibility he does now. He worked under Jim Heacock in the past as co-coordinator, but he is the play-calling coordinator now, with Everett Withers serving as co-coordinator. Fickell also directly coaches the linebackers, a group hit hard by injuries but also one that has seen young players slow to develop.
No one knows the dynamics in the room; Fickell said this week that coaches share responsibilities the way they always have. But it is certain that the offensive-minded Meyer isn?t going to let the defensive side slide. If after the season he believes the defensive dynamic didn?t work, he will likely make changes.
