DT Haskell (The Rascal) Garrett (All B1G, 1st Team All-American)

A little surprised he isn't more of a national story. Guy gets shot in the face of all places right before the season and plays like one of the best DTs in the country. Tom Rinaldi should be all over that

Also, I'm surprised how little that has been reported on the police investigation. You would think (possibly) the woman he helped would have come forward or at least Garrett would have provided a description of the shooter, etc.

Third-Team All-Big Ten Defensive Tackle Haskell Garrett is named a First-Team All-American.

Yes, you read that right.

On Wednesday, Garrett was named just third-team All-Big Ten by the conference's coaches and didn't even make any of the media's all-conference teams after emerging as one of the most dominant interior linemen in the country.

Less than a week later, he was named a first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus, and he understandably had some thoughts for the Big Ten's coaches and media.

This season, Garrett had 17 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and a pick-six to go along with the relentless pressure he's put on opposing quarterbacks this season in addition to his run-stopping ability.

Of course, this all comes just a few months after he was shot in the face while trying to break up a fight and was miraculously ready to play – and dominate – in Ohio State's season opener.

It's been a wild ride and an unbelievable season for Garrett. At least somebody is giving him the recognition he deserves.

Lot of Buckeye fatigue/envy in the conference

Yeah, although I somewhat get that by the time the coaches get down to the DTs on the ballot they feel like they can't just make the entire all B1G team Buckeyes. But not having Garrett on the first team is just a robbery, especially with all he's been through. But glad to see him get a tree in Buckeye Grove, man did he earn it.

I can totally tell how old I’ve become when my time on campus shifts toward the time in the Grove and away from High St. This is a tree I’ll go looking for next time I’m in town.

You mean like how Dave Winfield made BTN’s Top Fifty Athletes because they coupdn’t leave Minnie with nothing after Bronco Nagurski?
