FWIW, so did Sweat.

I think that you can infer from the following post that Garrett has been in contact with some of the other Buckeye recruits:SweetBuckeye;856502; said:Does anyone know if any of the current commits are talking to him like they've done with Sweat and others? The visit to ND this week really concerns me. He seemed very positive and did receive a lot of personal attention.

Goebel hopes to make another "unofficial visit" to Columbus in the near future.

XPUNISHR;856373; said:Garrett postponed plans to visit Columbus this weekend in favor of coming the following weekend (6/9? & 6/10 Sunday) to attend OSU's 1-day camp on Sunday June 10th. Garrett is REALLY looking forward to working out under the guidance of D-Line (Def. Coordinator) Coach Jim Heacock. Garrett hopes to narrow down his choices to a "TOP 3/4" list very soon as he plans to make a verbal commitment in August (possibly sooner). Remember....PATIENCE is a VIRTUE!!
I'm not sure Goebel is the type to need that kind of attention. Unless the kid says he hasn't heard from the other staff enough or in a while, I don't get too worked up if OSU is not recruiting someone the hardest.IrishCalves;856518; said:Just saying that Goebel's visit wasn't some last ditch effort here - it's something to make note of, especially when he says ND is recruiting him the hardest (check earlier in the thread).
Blue (ND) is used to represent flaws, while scarlet (OSU) was used to express passion and himself. :pXPUNISHR;856581; said:NAVYBUCK,
I am aware of BP impatience (one of many character defects I myself struggle with on an "hourly" basis!!) but what baffles me is WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG TO RESPOND TO MY SILLY QUOTE / REMARK whereby informing me of this general intolerance of PATIENCE. Please reply within the hour!!!
Thank you for your cooperation.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that Goebel needs a lot of attention, specifically. I just know that the amount of attention you give a kid is a factor. When Tyrone wasn't starting out 8-0, he couldn't recruit a hill of beans to play at ND, 'cause he never spent time on them.
Its a bit of an extreme example, but sometimes, its as simple as the more often you pitch your program, the higher your chances are of giving the right pitch... it can backfire though if you hound a guy, so I will give you that. Just haven't been hearing anything to that extent, and the article I heard it in was largely positive about ND. So we'll see.
wadc45;856850; said:XPUNISHR, is it safe to assume ND is talking to Garrett about the idea of being a combo DL...playing a little DE and a little DT in their 3-4 scheme? Obviously there are more important factors to a college decision than depth charts and I think we have already gathered that Garrett is anything BUT scared of a little competition. Having said that I wonder how ND's recruiting plays in to things...having already garnered verbals from a pure DT in Brandon Newman, a potential DT/OG in Hafis Williams (who most, including himself, think ends up on defense), a DE/DT combo in Sean Cwynar and the impending decision of another DT in Omar Hunter (both ND and UM fans are very confident about their chances)?
IrishCalves;856912; said:First of all, great post XPUNISHR. I think I may have been misunderstood, but at this point, I don't see any reason to drag it out, 'cause it would just derail the thread. All I'll say is, I never meant to insinuate Goebel needs attention - as I said earlier. Maybe a simple misinterpretation, but I'll let it rest, and get back on topic.
I have never heard of Hafis being mentioned as an OL candidate, and I've followed his recruitment since February. Even when I listened to one of his interviews, he never even mentioned the, "I'll get a look at ____ but I'll move to ____ if that doesn't work out" angle. All he mentioned was ND is recruiting him as a DE. Maybe people speculated because ND's OL coach recruited him, but coach Latina also recruited David Posluszny for LB, so it had more to do with region (Northeast) than position. So, you are right wadc, to know that most people think he'll end up on defense. Guess I'm surprised to hear the OL speculation is all.
But that in mind, Hafis is the only candidate being mentioned as a "combo" type lineman. His HS coach thinks he'll gain enough weight to be a 3-4 NT. He might be the "run stuffing" end though, but its too early to accurately project in his case. But both Cwynar and Goebel have been called "perfect" fits for the 3-4 end in their defense - by ND's staff. Cwynar would be a DT in the standard 4-3, but he's an end for the Irish, no doubt about it. So I would be thoroughly surprised to hear that Goebel would be sold on spot playing at NT.
If Hunter does come on board, like we're hearing, that leaves one spot left for DL recruiting, most likely for a DE with more natural pass rush skills (Ethan Johnson or Kapron Lewis-Moore being our best shots).wadc45;856980; said:Great stuff IrishCalves...glad to have a solid ND poster to talk legit...as for the Hafis/OL talk, that came from an ND fan of mine who mentioned he had heard that as a remote possibility. But he, like you and I, thinks when it is all said and done that Hafis ends up on the DL. That still means a class of Hafis (combo DL), Fleming (DE, I assume, or is he being looked at as a LB?), Cwynar (DE), Newman (DT) and possibly Hunter (DT), with offers also out Goebel (DE), Marcus Fortson (DT who probably stays South), Kapron Lewis-Moore (DE from Texas), Chancey Aghayere (stud DE from Texas who any program would love to have), Ethan Johnson (Oregon kid with a similar build to Cwynar and Goebel) and Shayne Hale (DE/LB). Doesn't that seem like a lot of offers to a lot of similar players?
