Blue-chippers from Hoosier State hard to find

Two OSU players feel they have something to prove about the integrity, quality of Indiana football.

COLUMBUS ? Dexter Larimore may not be able to say whether the high school competition he faced in Indiana was good preparation for college, but he knows how much motivation he draws from having to defend the honor of the Hoosier State.
The redshirt freshman defensive tackle is one of only two players from Indiana on Ohio State's roster, compared to 78 native Ohioans. And Larimore said he and third-year sophomore cornerback Donald Washington get constant jabs from teammates, who pretend not to know how that pair figured out what to do with a ball that isn't round.

Dexter Larimore is majoring in finance so that he can manage the business side of being an artist.

When Dick Tressel showed Dexter Larimore the Short North, it might have been the first time that an Ohio State football recruiting prospect was given a tour of the funky, artsy district known best for its gallery hops. But Tressel, an OSU assistant coach, had done his homework on Larimore. He knew the big defensive tackle's mother, Theresia, was a former commercial artist and that Dexter had developed a passion for pottery.
So on Larimore's official visit two years ago, their destination was a stroke of genius.

By Jardy & Greene.....GREAT article and interview with Dexter. He talks about the 2007 season and how the DTs are expecting to greatly improve this season.

He seems VERY focused and I definitely expect them to improve as well.

Room for Larimore: Even with 40 fourth- and fifth-year players back, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel insists there'll be room for Merrillville alumnus Dexter Larimore in an eight-man defensive line rotation.

"He'll be in that 25-to-35 plays per game (range)," Tressel said of the 6-foot-3, 300-pounder. "Dexter's going to play a lot for us.

"He's an all-day guy. He never stops going hard. His ability to play with power with his knees bent -- our offensive linemen hate playing against him in practice."

from CFN:

"[SIZE=-1]Dexter Larimore appears to be on the verge of big things moving from tackle to end,"

Did I miss something? My opinion of Dex is that he's a true tackle. Tim Anderson is the comparison... not Will Smith.

It's gotta be a mistake. No way is Larimore a DE. However, he just may be our best DT.

Merrillville grad Larimore was Michigan fan as a kid

By John O'Malley Post-Tribune correspondent

Dexter Larimore grew up cheering for Michigan.
He loved the Maize and Blue.
He loved the Wolverines’ helmets.
He loved the school’s fight song: “The Victors” and he hailed the conquering heroes.
He loved Michigan Stadium — known to most as “The Big House.’’
With all his love and devotion to Michigan, Larimore appeared destined to play for the Wolverines.
It never happened.
As a standout player at Merrillville High School, the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Larimore was recruited by both Michigan and Ohio State.
They both battled for his services.
Then-Michigan coach Lloyd Carr and OSU coach Jim Tressel visited Larimore’s home in Ross Township.
