Any "football officials" out there that can answer this?

When I first saw Cam's TD I didn't think it was a TD. It looked like Cam was on his knees in the end zone, reaches accross the goal line, picks up the ball that was laying on the 1 yard line, pulls it to his body (across the goal) in the end zone, and protects the ball laying in a fetal position. I thought that it should have been Ohio State's ball on the 1 yard line. He was on his knees (i.e. he was down) when he recovers the ball on the 1 yard line. Once he is down I don't think he can legally advance the ball (i.e. into the end zone). There was no review and the announcers didn't mention anything about it. I'll take a Buckeye TD anytime; however, was it really a "legal TD" or should the ball have been spotted on the 1 yard line?

It looked to me like he reached out with his arm, started to to pull it in, and it came loose at which point he finally pulled it into the fetal position.

so he never had 100% possession at the 1 yard line.

I thought it was pretty obvious he made initial contact with the ball while it was around the 1, but he didn't have full possesion of the ball until it was in the end-zone.

He corralled it outside of the endzone, but only had true possesion in the end-zone. If he had full possesion outside of the end-zone even with his body across the goalline, the ball would have been marked where possesion was gained.

Heyward & a UM OL both dove for the ball arms first. Cam got there a split second earlier, with his hands on either side, but a UM OL arm punched it loose first, driving it towards the endzone. Cam scurried back and corralled it for a TD.

My only thought was that since there was a bit scrum for the ball and there was a Michigan guy right there (close to the ball), Cam didn't have real control until he gathered the ball into his body which as you said was in the endzone.

If you watch the replay of the play, at one point you can see that the ball slid under Cam's body and right between his legs. So possession was clearly not complete until he gathered that up.

Gibson, Heyward should return, analyst says

NFL draft analyst Todd McShay of ESPN commented on a teleconference about whether Ohio State juniors Thaddeus Gibson and Cameron Heyward should declare for the draft.

As for Heyward, "He is more of a power defensive end who uses strength and quickness, and I think that translates well to the NFL. At this point Heyward would probably get drafted higher than Gibson, and I could see where he would make that decision to leave.

LOS ANGELES -- Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh put the defensive tackle position on the map this season, bull rushing his way to the Heisman Trophy presentation.

Ohio State's Cameron Heyward is one of college football's most dominant defensive tackles.

Suh had the amazing ability to dominate games, namely the Big 12 championship against Texas, from a position that largely goes unnoticed. Anyone who watched Ohio State's matchups with Penn State and USC this fall saw the same type of dominance from Buckeyes defensive tackle Cameron Heyward.

The 6-6, 287-pound Heyward often looked like the best player on the field, even though he didn't receive first-team All-Big Ten honors. It's hardly unusual for elite interior linemen to fly under the radar, but Suh changed the game a bit this fall.

"Suh is a great player," Heyward said Wednesday. "Hopefully, one day I can be in the same position. Maybe next year."

Those last two words will bring smiles to Ohio State fans. Heyward might be Ohio State's most NFL-ready player, but he expects to return to Columbus for his senior season.

Of course, he has some immediate business Friday against No. 7 Oregon in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi (ABC, 4:30 p.m. ET).

"I look forward to coming back," he said. "Right now, I'm enjoying time with my [teammates]. I'm leaning toward staying because these guys are my brothers."

Heyward's teammates will be thrilled to have him back in 2010, even though they see his obvious potential to turn pro.

"Some of the guys told him to go [pro] after the great season he had," left tackle Jim Cordle said. "But you could tell he was never going to leave. He wants to stay, wants to get his degree, wants to be a senior. It's only going to make him that much better.

"After next year, he could be a top 5 pick."

thad is gone gone gongitty gone gone, and honestly as nice as it is to hear cam talk a good game about wanting to come back, get his degree, be a senior etc, the truth is that he's probably NFL ready now and if he projects to the first round (which is entirely possible) i really wouldn't blame him or be surprised if he took the money and left early.

with that said, i think they're the only juniors we have who should seriously consider the NFL this year
