DT Cameron Heyward (6x Pro Bowl, 3x All Pro, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Heyward not taking Rose for granted
Saturday, November 14, 2009
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The media kept trying to shove a Rose into Cameron Heyward's hand, figuratively speaking, and the Ohio State defensive tackle wanted nothing to do with it. To him, it was like counting on a flower before it bloomed.

Ohio State can all but officially lock up its first trip to the Rose Bowl since the 1996 season with a win today over Iowa. But, as Heyward said, "Iowa is playing for the same thing, and they're a good team."

The winner earns at least a share of the Big Ten title and will be the league's automatic qualifier in the Bowl Championship Series. That will mean a spot in the Rose Bowl unless, by various cataclysmic developments, the winner ends up in the top two and qualifies for the national championship game.

But all that bowl talk was a distraction for Heyward.

"I don't really know that much about the Rose Bowl, but we're trying to just take one game at a time," Heyward said. "We can only worry about Iowa."

WOW. Trying very hard not to come across as a homer here, but I think some of our players on D got royally SCREWED after looking at the All-Big 10 teams...

All 3 of Penn State's LBs either 1st or 2nd team?? GTFOH.

EDIT - just noticed the 2009 Big Ten Discussion thread...mods please move this if necessary.

He single-handedly dominated up front in the most important games of the year. That should count for something, right? He dominated USC's O-line (supposably the best in the country), was in the backfield all night against PSU, and same against Iowa. I don't get it. He was, simply put: unblockable 2nd half of the season. He got hosed. Congrats on 2nd team Cam. Looking forward to you dominating one more year in S & G.

Cam got a taste of playing in the title game as a freshman, and it sounds like he's not satisfied until winning the hardware. Right up there as the best plan B recruit of the Tressel era.

IIRC, he was offered fairly early in the process so I don't think he qualifies as a plan B. He was more of a surprise commit.
