QB Barker impresses
Conner signal caller highly ranked following Elite 11 regional camp at Ohio Dominican
May. 8, 2012
Conner football coach Dave Trosper admittedly is not a fan of combines as a measure in determining a player?s ability, but he is impressed with how his sophomore quarterback Drew Barker performed at one of the most prestigious quarterback combines this past Friday.
Barker participated in the Nike Elite 11 regional camp at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. He was rated the top underclassman at the event by scout.com and the No. 5 quarterback prospect overall by analyst Bill Greene.
The seniors in the event were competing to advance to the national competition.
?For me, put pads on a kid and let him face the blitz and the pressure that comes with that and then you can tell how good he is, but I?ve seen Drew perform through that and he?s got it,? said Trosper. ?I can?t even do soft toss with him and that?s not even when he?s raring back and throwing the heater. He has a lot of things that can?t be taught. His release is just so quick.
?... Where he?s going to get better is continuing to watch film, which he does almost every day, and continue to soak up the knowledge of the game,? continued Trosper. ?When he gets that down, he?ll take it to the next level. The big thing is he wants to do that.?
Barker recently picked up his first Division I offer, from Louisville. Other Division I schools are interested in him already, too.
Bearcats offer nearby 2014 QB

Mike Bajakian watched all the quarterbacks on Cincinnati?s 2014 recruiting board throw during spring evaluations. None were better than Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner).
The Bearcats rewarded Barker on Wednesday with an offer after Barker spoke with coach Butch Jones and Bajakian, Cincinnati?s quarterbacks coach.
?[Bajakian] put Coach Butch Jones on the phone,? the Class of 2014 signal-caller said, ?and he told me, like when I went on a visit, that he could tell I?m the perfect fit for the program socially and athletically and I could be the face of the program and Cincinnati is the only place I can be a hometown hero.?

Notebook: Barker throws well at OSU

By Jared Shanker | ESPN.com
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With Ohio State likely done at quarterback in the 2013 class, one of the main objectives of the first day of the Buckeyes? three-day camp was to identify and begin separating the quarterback targets for 2014.
One of the more decorated quarterbacks at Thursday?s camp was Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner), who was throwing for the Ohio State coaches for the first time.
?When we were just throwing routes on air [at the start], I was a little shaky. The wind was blowing pretty hard, but I?m not going to use that as an excuse,? Barker said. ?Once I started getting in a rhythm in one-on-ones, I started throwing really good.?
