Dotting the "i" (official thread)

    • As we know only a hand full of individuals (other than sousaphone members of TBDBL) have dotted the "i". Bob Hope, Woody and Jack come to mind as having that great honor. I was just thinking of the individuals who are living now, who I would like to see " dot the i".

    First of all each individual must have conducted themselves with honor and have brought great recognition or services to OSU or the state of Ohio.

    With that in mind I think the following individuals either now or in the near future (within the next decade or when they are retired) who I would like to see on the field during the playing of "Le Regiment".

    Chris Speilman
    Gordon Gee
    Andy Geiger
    Bill Martin :biggrin:

    I know I probably forgot someone....so what does your list look like?
     
    Archie, and that needs to happen. There has never been a greater ambassador for Ohio State.

    Tressel will have his opportunity, many years down the road.

    I would like to see Spiels and a couple other legendary players get the honor (Eddie, Winfield, and Doss, IMO), but the bar has been set impossibly high, and I don't have a problem with that.

    I think it would be just beyond difficult to start handing out the honor to players because your splitting hairs when your talking about who they would pick to do it.

    Tressel probably at some point deserves to though.

    Where did that list come from? Winfield & Doss?

    Those are the only two.. if we're having players do it, I'd have Orlando Pace on that list before any of the guys you had mentioned.

    I was saying that no players are likely to get the honor. Archie will because of everything he's done since his playing days. Winfield and Doss are just examples of players who had stellar OSU careers, and Pace would certainly be near the top of an actual list. But, I think for any player to have a chance, they would need an impressive resume of post playing career accomplishments, perhaps directly related to the university. And they would still have to wait several years after Archie gets his chance. There are plenty of opportunities to honor players during pre-game and half time. Dotting the I seems to be more of a lifetime achievement recognition.
