Donovan McNabb (official thread)

Junior
Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing Donovan McNabb complain about everything? First it was Limbaugh, then TO, then how the fans embraced Garcia when he was hurt, and now he's upset his team drafted a QB.

Well WTF McNabb, let me break it down for you:

- First of all, you're 30 years old and nearing the end of your career
- You've been plagued with injuries over the last three years
- You've finished the last three seasons on the sideline leaving someone else to carry the load
- 2004 was your career year and you have been no better than above average outside of that
- You've only had a completions percentage above 60% one time
- You aren't as dynamic as you used to be (no more than 220 yards rushing over the last three years)
- You need to put up or shut up.

So quit your whining. Teams should draft a quarterback before they need them. Of all the positions that need time to adjust to the NFL, QB is the most important one of all.

And don't say shit like:
"It was shocking, when you draft somebody at the position you're in, of course you have questions of 'What does that mean? The most important thing for me is to make sure I'm healthy and 100 percent and get back out there competing and do the right thing on the field."

and follow it up with:
"I think Kevin Kolb is going to do an excellent job for us, I'm going to try and help him as much as I can. I'm sure he's going to do great. I look forward to working with him this weekend."

If you peform, there should be no question about who the starter is. Maybe if you worried less about your team drafting a quarterback and more about performing you would be a better QB.

And on that note, do you hear Steve McNair complaining that they drafted Troy Smith? I know McNair is a few years older but he has had a similar career defined with one great season (1999) and the rest being above average seasons.

I won't argue that he hasn't had some great games and a few good seasons but damn man, take care of your own shit and everything else will fall in line.

This thread is a bit ironic... chastising donovan about complaining and blowing things out of proportion, while doing the same yourself.

You're placing the Limbaugh and TO situations on Donovan, not the media? Any time Limbaugh or TO does something remotely controversial, the media becomes unbearable with it's coverage of that event.

Awful comparison. Baltimore didn't use a top-40 pick on a QB, they used a throwaway 174 pick. Philly could have given Donovan an offensive weapon, protection or helped the D... but they went with another QB, and a bit of a reach at that.

McNabb breaks silence on Eagles draft

ROB MAADDI

Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - Donovan McNabb had the same reaction most fans had when the Philadelphia Eagles selected quarterback Kevin Kolb with their first pick in last month's NFL draft. "It was shocking," McNabb said Tuesday in an interview on WIP-AM radio.
Speaking publicly for the first time since the draft on April 28-29, McNabb downplayed the perception he's upset the Eagles selected his eventual successor.
The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback also said his rehab is going well following surgery for a torn knee ligament and he expects to play in the preseason.
"When you draft somebody at the position you're in, of course you have questions of 'What does that mean?'" McNabb said. "The most important thing for me is to make sure I'm healthy and 100 percent and get back out there competing and do the right thing on the field."

I watched the most recent interview with McNabb today on ESPN. Nothing wrong with it at all.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with him saying that he was surprised. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit taken back by the pick. But he went on with class to say that he plans to help out the young QB. I don't see any whining there.

If anyone complained too much after the drafting of a QB, it was Brett Favre when he openly stated that he had no intention of helping Aaron Rodgers progress.

Yeah, you're right....as usual :roll1:

Cause Donovan and I speak from the same forum. And as we are both privileged athletes who are afforded a high level of media attention, a lot of people outside of this forum are going to care what I say. Thus, him complaining to the media time and again is the same as me posting a thread here.

But no really, thanks for proving my point.

And get off it dude, I never said the media didn't play a role but there have been many pro athletes before Donovan who handled difficult situations a lot better than he has. The media is the catalyst but this guy fuels the fire.

And why doesn't Phily need a QB? Didn't they just lose their #1 backup/starter? I think it was a great pick. Feeley and Holcomb are not the future of that team so this seems like a good time to bring someone in who can learn under Donovan as opposed to these other two bit actors.

If there's one thing I've learned in my five years living near Philly, it's this: Philly fans will dump on their teams' stars in a heartbeat.

Truly, it's pathetic. I give Chase Utley and Ryan Howard until the end of the 2008 season before they're booed out of town.

As for McNabb, if I was him, I'd say the following. "Philly fan, shut the **** up. Stop letting the god-awful sports talk radio of this city influence your opinions. Do you know why no Philly team has won anything in over twenty years? Because no one wants to play in this thankless town that boos every freaking mistake made."

McNabb may be the best quarterback in Eagle history, yet a lot of these fans can't stand him because he hasn't won the Super Bowl.

And I don't blame him for releasing a public "WTF?" at their draft. I said the same thing. Yeah, McNabb won't be around forever...but Kolb?...with their first pick? Yikes.

Thats a good point...I won't pretend I am a Phily expert but as much as it may be a product of the situation I am sick of hearing McNabb complain. Maybe he has some valid points in this situation but on the heel of everything else he complains about it is too much.
