Donald Sterling and his comments

The only thing the league could do to kick him in the balls is to somehow (and it would have to stick legally, unless the league has this kind of power, I don't know) give all coaches and players the option to opt out of their contracts at the end of the year and become free agents. That way, not only will new black players presumably not want to play there, but the existing players and the coach (and by all accounts a pretty good one) can leave immediately. That might force him to sell, or lose all his players with no realistic chance to replace them.

My take:

1.) the comments were made in a (supposedly private) phone conversation with his gold-digging whore girlfriend that seemingly to him, were never meant to be made public.
2.) they were made during a fight between the two, and had apparently been discussed previously, which is why she knew what he was going to say, which is why she was recording it. Have you ever said anything you didn't completely mean in the context of a fight with a wife/girlfriend?
a.) I am not saying he either meant them or not, just that when people get emotional, they can say some nasty shit.
3.) Sterling may in fact be a racist POS, but he is the owner and is entitled to his own thoughts and opinions.
4.) I really don't see how the NBA can interceded and try to punish him.

Actually, he should sell. It would be the best business decision as the value of the Clippers isn't going higher than it is right now.

The Clippers are debt free, have their core roster locked up through 2016, and will be out of their current TV contract in 2016 too. I think there's TONS of growth ahead for them, especially if the Lakers continue to suck for awhile. The alternative would be to move the team to St. Louis (or shop for buyers in St. Louis). Either way, $575m for that franchise according to Forbes is nowhere near what the team could be worth with a new TV deal in two years, just so long as the owner doesn't say something racist and chase all the sponsors away ... or something.

Agreed...ironically he was sitting on a platinum mine as the Lakers decline. Not so much now, although if he sold, I bet the value would go up substantially in a short period of time.

1) He knew he was being recorded.

2) This isn't an isolated incident for Sterling

3) This is a black eye for the league.

So, yeah, the league wants to do something.

4) I hope she was a 'gold digger' because anybody who would actually want to put that old POS's balls in their mouth for nothing has even more serious issues than recording said POS being his usual racist self.
