2/3 do their own and 1/3 hire it out (and of those it looks like half are family members that do it for free)... I'd guess this isn't a good sample size when compared to the national average (and it that is the national average I'm very surprised).

I would guess the older folks hire it out, and the younger folks do their own... on an income scale I would guess the lower income does their own and the higher income hires it out (to ensure it's done right and to have somebody in their corner when they get audited)...

I happen to have a business relationship with a couple of CPA's and we refer business to each other... I feel obligated to use them (that and it's near the same price as the software, and take me no time ... read more time to spend on the planet :tongue2: )...

I always do my own plus my children's returns. The state forms are the only pains in the butt as I have to file in every state that I did consulting work that year. I think my record might have been eleven states in one year.

North Carolina
South Carolina
Nebraska
Illinois
Maryland
California
New York
New Jersey
Ohio
Michigan
Connecticut

I got refunds from about 2/3 of the states and had to pay on the rest. Some states require you to send in copies of the other states returns that you had to file, North Carolina is one that comes to mind. Before the advent of the Internet and the ability to download the various state forms and directions it was a nightmare. Not too bad now, but some state's instructions read as they were written by a kindergartner. This year I don't have it too bad only have to file in North Carolina, Michigan, and California.
