Do you do your own taxes?

Unless you have a complex business, I could never understand why you wouldn't do your own taxes. I've always done mine. The only time I've ever had anyone other than me get involved in my tax preparation was when I was active duty in the late 1990s and the base here provided free electronic filing. I had my tax paperwork already done, and just went in to regurgitate it to some keyboard monkey to file the return.

I agree Mili.

Unless you own a ton of properties or have a large number of investments I don't understand it.

The tax guy charges you about $90 and all he does is plug your info into TurboTax like you could do yourself.

I've had them done in the past due to being lazy. But the last year I started to use turbo tax. This year though i've had soem trouble with it noe letting me do my tuition deductions. I'm going to give it another shot tonight because there were some updates that became available over the weekend. If not I don't know what I'm going to do I'd hate to go pay $90 to have them done.

If you consider using turbo tax online... then yes. I did my own taxes. Them fuckers rip you off when it comes to your state taxes though. It was 25 bucks to file the state taxes and 10 for the federal. :smash:

If you would have used the Premier version it would have cost you $75 so don't complain.

I did the web-based one you did and I was done in an hour and a half.

My wife had some tuition deductions and when I went to e-file it said I had to send a paper form in for federal b/c they could not process tuition deductions through e-file.

But then I read the fine print and it said as of Feb. 1 that you could then send in your Federal's e-file with tuition deductions.

So I'd try again after the 1st.

I'll see if I can help you later... Core One has a link to thier online version on their website and some of the packages are at a discounted price.

Eh, the tax guy isn't so bad. At least it's cheaper than the H&R Block/Jackson Hewitt operations.

Certain people prefer to pay the extra money in order to have someone to sit down and explain things to them. It's also nice to have someone to go to bat with you if the IRS decides that you ought to be audited.

That being said, I do my own. :)
