I have a few problems with this story and how she went about it.

1. She mentions that when the police arrived, she was on the phone with her father. But then seems angry that the officers asked her boyfriend for her ID. If they had told her to hang up to ask her for the ID she would have complained about that. The officer was allowing her a courtesy to finish her phone call uninterrupted.

2. She says they were fully clothed and just making out. The police were responding to a call of "Indecent Exposure". No one kisses a hooker and if they were fully clothed, no one would have bothered them.

3. She acts like she's standing up for the little guy, but all she was doing was seeking attention. The officer never raised his voice, never mentioned race (other than describe the call as he received it from dispatch), never got physical other than put cuffs on her and put safely in the backseat until she could be identified. For all the officer knew, she was concealing her identity because she was wanted, or had a rap sheet for other "Indecent Exposure" incidents.

4. WHY THE FUCK IS THIS THE TOP STORY ON CNN.COM??

Jesus Christ. I can go out of my house looking however the motherfuck I want and if I look like a bum it's my fucking right. Just because I call the police and say the guy walking in front of my house is a terrorist atheist doesn't give police some magic authority to disregard his rights. I don't have to show my fucking ID to a cop because he asks for it. This is still America, right?

Without going all lawya on everyone, in this instance the Supreme Court says you do. Police did nothing wrong here, far as I can tell.

The cops were responding to a specific complaint of criminal behavior, so they had reasonable suspicion and/or probable cause to detain her and determine her identity.

"Somebody called, which gives me the right to be here," the unidentified Los Angeles police officer is heard saying to Watts. "So it gives me the right to identify you by law."

Supreme court also says you don't have to carry Id if you're not driving or flying.

True, but if the cop has reasonable suspicion they can detain you to determine your identity and whether a crime has been committed. Identification can often be determined without an actual ID card, in some cases simply by stating your name to police. She resisted and played the race card, to her detriment - though I won't rule out the possibility that she and her "celebrity chef" BF get a reality show out of the deal.

So someone reported seeing indecent exposure....cop arrives and at least sees something of a sexual nature occurring to confirm this as a possibility. I think this would fall under enough reason to identify the parties to investigate their history and I'm thankful there is a cop who wasn't stopped from doing his job just by falling for the "I'm a celebrity!" line. Props to the cop.

This is true. However, the law is very clear that when an officer has reasonable suspicion criminal activity has occurred, police have the right to stop and detain (which can mean handcuffs and placed in the cruiser) an individual for a reasonable period of time to ascertain if a crime has been committed. These are commonly called Terry stops, which have grown to include an obligation to ID yourself during the Terry stop (whether through an actual physical ID or giving a name, DOB, SSN, etc). This is nothing more than a publicity stunt for reasons I don't know or care about.

As an aside, with Terry v. Ohio and Mapp v Ohio, the Buckeye State has played a huge role in the shaping of constitutional law!

I know there are cops around here and that I generally give the profession tons of shit, so let me be clear. ..

I have respect for police. That being said, if I suck at and hate my customers at my job, big fucking deal. If a cop sucks at their job and is an asshole, I could end up serving time in prison. And telling the difference between good ones and bad ones is hard enough at times that by the time you find out, its too late.
