Ok thoughts on the dixie chicks from another perspective:

1) they are absolutely amazing musicians and put on a great live show.

2) They really pissed off a lot of people by saying that they were embarassed of their country and specifically that their pres came from Texas(their home state). Not really the smartest thing to do when you are dealing with the proudest of the proud, Americans/Texans. First rule of writting/speaking is know you audience.

3) I can completly understand the people that choose to turn the channel when the chicks come on but i personally dont like/dislike artists for their opinions. If that was the case I wouldnt be able to ever listen to rock music or watch a movie.

4) If I were guessing I would say that this album will try to apeal to the left a little more. Rick Rubin has done a great job lately of taking country artists and giving them a rock apeal. Look no further than Johnny Cash's last album with the NIN covers. Also look at the apeal that other country artists have found with a more folk/blues croud. Loretta Lynn's the van lear rose was critically aclaimed and Emy Lou Harris has been all over the map with company that includes Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes (not really known for his right wing politics)

This is all just a guess but i would be willing to bet that this album is an attempt at appealing to a larger audience than the old school country fan....It has to be doesn't it?

Wow, I come back from class, and all hell has broken loose!

Thump, BKB has nailed it on the head. What I was saying is that how can you judge a CD before it has ever come out, so why ask us now? Why is that so hard for you to comprehend?

I'll admit that I like the Dixie Chicks, and not for political reasons. They don't even talk about their politics in their songs. I like their sound, and I've seen them live, and they were great. And I hate country music -- most of the modern stuff anyway.

Me too...I'd hit that one sister in ways that haven't even been invented yet :tongue2:

huh?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

That's our "freedom of speech"...I fail to see where it says "radio stations must play your songs"...I also missed the part where congress passed a law abridging the Dixie Chicks' "freedom of speech"...Sorry BuckeyeKid789, but the misuse of the "freedom of speech" argument is a pet peeve of mine. :wink2: This right is only meant to protect you from the government, not the local radio station. In fact, the radio station, not being a part of the government, has every right to play, or in this case not to play, anything they want (inside FCC guidelines at least). They are a private enterprise and cater to the paying customers (the general public). The Dixie Chicks have no protection from the financial consequences the general public wants to meet out for their "speech"...Your argument does not apply in this case...Now, if they would have been arrested upon re-entering the United States, I would be right there with ya...

Right on the button, Saw.
In fact, this whole scenario is a good example of the exercise of freedom of speech. The Dixie Chicks made the mistake of criticizing the Pres when they were outside the U.S. - this is what made it so much more offensive to many in the U.S. They should know that stuff stops at the border.
BuckeyeKid, you must understand that the boycott by country music fans /stations was their exercise of their freedom of speech. Speak with your $$$$. Same as boycotting a big corporation that does something you don't agree with.
Also, understand that "freedom" does not equate to "no consequences".
