Um, thump... here is Sushi's only post on this thread. Have a close look. She doesn't quote Lville. Why don't you get off her nuts until you have something to get on her nuts about.

Be careful mentioning Nut's to Thump.........it seems to get him charged up. :wink2:

FWIW, I think the Dixie Chicks hurt themselves by stating those views. They were a bit radical.........but I don't see it any different than some cheesy country singer walking around with an American flag jacket on singing about "Where were you when the towers went down", completely taking advantage of a national tragedy for record sales. I find it funny that Bush backers are so quick to smear anyone who is in dissent with GWB. Most country music is so far up the ass of gone toting, war fightin, good ol boys.....that I thought it was kind of ironic to see a country group that was from the south stand up against him.
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."

Why is that such a terrible thing to say? It's not like they went on some rant.......and I'd wager that if they said it nowdays they'd probably get a much better response. Hell, they may even boost record sales. I would go public and state that I was ashamed that Bob Taft is from Ohio.........would anyone disagree?

Actually, what he was doing was stating how he felt about a pivotal event in our history, like many artists do about things that happen and that affect how they feel and how they live their lives. It's a long tradition for musical artists to comment on current events and I don't see the point of bashing Alan Jackson in particular for doing what many others have done. EVERY artist wants to sell records (or CD's, or sell out concerts, etc.). If he sung a song about some woman you could say he was exploiting her for record sales. You could say he was exploiting the Chattahoochee river when he wrote a song about that. Who cares? It's just a song. It's not like he was standing at ground zero selling pieces of clothing retrieved from the dead victims.

I find it funny that Bush backers are so quick to smear anyone who is in dissent with GWB.
Aren't you "smearing" them by saying this?

Most country music is so far up the ass of gone toting, war fightin, good ol boys.....
Not that you're stereotyping them or anything like that.

that I thought it was kind of ironic to see a country group that was from the south stand up against him.
So you enjoyed her remarks. Good for you. I have enjoyed their music in the past, but the CD called Fly was pretty bad and I thought they "jumped the shark" at that point. If not, they certainly jumped it by alienating their biggest fan base with the Bush commentary. Certainly Natalie Maines is entitled to her opinion, but from a marketing perspective it wasn't very bright.

No, I'm not ashamed of him. He was an incompetent governor for the most part, but any democrat would have been worse.

I have exactly one Dixie Chick song in my collection... they covered Rolly Polly with a Texas Swing band I like. It's a fun little number, ain't no big deal.

I understand their right to speak their mind, but it's foolish to dis someone and think that it won't, or shouldn't have commercial consequences.

On a similar note, I'll gladly stand in line for hours for the opportunity to piss on Jane Fonda's grave... that's my act of free speech.

OK. Obviously everyone in this thread missed the point. Not only did nobody make any sexist comments about the dicks-ie chicks, but nobody posted any pictures either.

Jesus H, I should ding every last one of ya!!! :roll2:
