Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

Trustees meeting Tuesday, Wednesday

The Penn State board of trustees was meeting by phone on Tuesday night and planned to meet in person Wednesday night to discuss the child sex-abuse scandal that has shaken the university and threatened to end coach Joe Paterno's decades-long tenure as football coach, the Centre Daily Times reported.

"The board of directors is very concerned about the chain of events that have occurred," said trustee Paul Silvis, who confirmed the meetings to the newspaper.

The phone meeting was to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, while the in-person meeting was to take place Wednesday at 7 p.m., according to the report.

Support for Paterno among Penn State's Board of Trustees Tuesday was said to be drying up, threatening to end the 84-year-old coach's career amid the scandal involving one-time heir apparent Jerry Sandusky.

A source with knowledge of internal discussions at Penn State told "Outside the Lines" reporter Steve Delsohn that "the support on the board of trustees for Joe is eroding."

"But what that means and how much that support has eroded remains to be seen," the source said.

The Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the trustees' discussions, said it was unclear what the consequences for Paterno will be.

Penn State president Graham Spanier also has lost support among the Board of Trustees, the person said, but again, how much was unclear. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

What are they holding up one finger for? Do they realize they're not at a sporting event, and that this will more than likely cripple their university?
Just when you think it's impossible to loathe state penn any more. Jesus tapdancin' Christ. [censored] that entire university. I weep for our future.

I just don't know what to say anymore.

RT @spisupati12 @DailyCollegian

If Jim Tressel was in Joe Pa's situation it wouldn't be hard to find 200 people singing "Don't Stop Believing" in his honor, either. Large fan bases always have a delusional minority, including ours.

Veneer is very thin... Even before this, if you get under the surface you wouldn't have had the slightest bit of respect for him or that program...

They've clearly done a good job of hiding things, wouldn't you say? That is, until now.

I tend to agree, but what I don't get is why you don't turn Sandusky in the moment you know about this. Seems like if you do that, then JoePa wouldnt have really taken a fall. I do understand blind faith in a friend and perhaps that's what happened and by the time Joe realized the truth, he thought it was too late to save his legacy. That's the only way I could see him getting into this mess.

The trustees really need to make the cleaning of the Augean stables look like a half-hearted effort. The number of top/major university figures in both administrative and athletic departments taken out at the same time by this will be unprecedented in scope.

Or at least it should.
