I am a 'cuse fan, but I am certainly on the Buckeyes bball bandwagon. Hopefully I get a new job in a new place soon so this all becomes moot.

Anybody have experience with this BS way of handling local channels? I'd like to go bitch at somebody other than a guy on the DirectTV hotline, since I'm sure he can't do anything about it.

Sad to say but sounds like you're screwed.

When I moved into my new condo I made the switch from Comcast to DirecTV. I believe DirecTV has the better picture, especially the HD channels. My satellite has gone out a few times during very severe storms this summer. Definitely agree it seems to effect the HD channels more than others - also local channels have always come in fine during a storm.

If you're that close, just get an antenna for your local channels. When you want to watch the local news, sports programs, etc. Disconnect DTV and plug in your rabbit ears. Or you could keep one TV hooked up to the antenna all the time.
There's no reason to disconnect anything. The OTA channels should show on your guide just like those coming through on the satellite.

Questions:
  1. Back then my parents were told we could get more DTV boxes, but we could only watch one channel at a time....no matter how many TVs had the DTV boxes. Is this still true?
  2. Does it come with a DVR/Tivo type thing?
  3. Does it still fuck up during storms?

Most of these have already been answered, but:

1) Now, you can have up 2 6 boxes, all playing different channels

2) I have the DTV HD DVR. I love it.

3) I lost electrcity for Hurricane Cindy (a few weeks before Katrina) before I lost my satellite feed.

Getting ready to switch to DirectTV and wanted to followup on the Internet question.

Has anyone gone satellite with their Internet? If so, how is it?
Incredibly expensive. I think you'd be better off getting a wireless PC card plan. Not sure if you can still get in on sprint's $30 unlimited plan, but the satellite internet setup costs are astronomical. They are no longer tied into the direcTV service, it's a separate thing through hughesnet.

I deem their on-air spokesperson flat chested - so they get a thumbs down from me.

(Seriously, the speed via Satellite is poorer and the cost higher than typical residential DSL - get your phone companies bundle instead).

I've had better luck with maintaining signal during heavy rain since I switched to HD...of course, being in Hawaii I had to get their NORAD Missile Tracking dishes (dual 4-foot dishes). Next thing you know the neighbors will ask me to track Santa on Christmas Eve...

They took HDNet movies off of the basic package without telling anyone. :mad1:
You can sign up for the HD-Pack for 3 free months.

Beyond that it is going to be $4.99 p.mo

Not a smart move in my view though, as those HD-Pack channels were the core of the D* HD offerings till Sat-10 and Sat-11 went live with the extended HD offerings.
