Did we really get "killed?" (a complete evaluation of our let-downs, 1st half 21-3)

lets put it this way, if you spend 3 seconds with jessica alba (or whoever-this board seems to love alba) thats just as good as 30 minutes with her. you accomplished the goal, sure it may not be pretty and you may get made fun of, but you did the deed and that goes down as a W.

now on the flip side if you spend 3 seconds or 30 minutes with rosie odonell (or isnert some other fat, nasty chick here) you still did it, thats an L, whether it was 3 seconds or 30 minutes, youre going to get made fun of, thats the way it works.

a wins a win and a loss is a loss, the difference and margin are nearly irrelevant unless you like excuses... even then a few days later-it doesnt matter. it doesnt really matter as long as you score more points than the other team, unless the other team is rosie odonell-then youre just a sick sick man...

No, Carroll's teams are SPECTACULAR with halftime adjustments. OSU over the past few years ... not so much. Once OSU went down two possessions, my expectations changed from hoping to win to hoping not to get blown out.

Yeah, I mean... that's pretty much it. I mean, there is reason to feel like it could have been 14-7/14-10ish at halftime... and... maybe that changes the feel a bit...

But, I think had we gone out and won the 3rd quarter, even made it 21-10 (actual score) and then we were having this discussion... maybe I'd feel better about saying we didn't really get our asses handed to us... but... reality is, that we had some bad breaks in the first half that got us down, but, we didn't even play them even the rest of the way... so... yeah, we got "killed"

Joe56 and others... I do agree with many of your points and think we're often on the same page. I do know where we were beat, I do think Pryor never should have left the field in this game. I guess the point of this thread and one of the things that I can't get over is how many people drink the Herbstreit/Musberger Kool-Aid, and buy into their (and the rest of media's) analysis of the game. It seems the layman hears what they say and makes it gospel- can't say I blame the layman. I offer a dissenting opinion. Who are they? Herbie doesn't impress me like he should. If you listen to them, the Buckeyes didn't belong on the same field and Jesus Christ was stepping under center and lined up 5 yards off the LOS on D for SoCal. If you actually watch the little things that add up, it's a bad ordeal compounded over the course of the game. Back to my point... did we really get killed? Me? I'm looking towards that Rose Bowl hoping to see USC waiting for us (key: should our staff make the necessary adjustments). He who laughs last laughs loudest.

+1 for the we got killed side. With a list of what ifs that is that long, you got killed.

Now for calling off the dogs... I think the dogs were called off once we showed that we could stop SC. There were a couple of more drives after the last score that were full bore. Once those drives were stopped the dogs were called off. If those drives weren't stopped I am not sure the score doesn't pile up.

The refs didn't help, the play calling was atrocious, but as the little brother we desperately need you guys to bash one of these 'real' teams every once in a while.

The power O was working, Pryor was working. The nothing else was working. I believe everyone except possibly Oklahoma is playing for 2nd place this year anyways after seeing how sick that USC team is.

This is the exact reason why I think this post is relevant...

Yes USC is a very good team...But a healthy Beanie, a couple calls go our way, this is not as bad as the score indicated...

This is not making excuses in terms of whether we won or loss, this is contending things like I knew it was going to be a blowout, it was over from the get go, USC is the GTOAT...

Will it take a pretty good game to beat USC?...yeah...Is any team in the country more talented than USC?...No...But there are teams out there as talented that can play with them and beat them...

USC got all the bounces in the game, and yeah they are strong at key positions like QB, DT, and S, but people said the same type of shit about New England last year, and they finally got beat...

This Ohio State, was not built for an early season test, with injuries to key guys, couple suspensions for 2 weeks, and some young guys that will make the team better not seeing much playing time yet...

I generally agree with what (I think) Mick is saying. I had similar thoughts watching USC v. Illinois in the Rose Bowl last year. Unfortunately, it is what USC does to teams when they have time to prepare for, and are focused on, them.

Personally, I thought it was going to be a long night when I watched the team set up for that first field goal. I can remember, clearly, saying to myself, "the defense had better be lights out if Tressel is going to settle for field goals". I guess it is the true contrast between the philosophies of the two teams. USC isn't afraid to take chances because they know they can overcome mistakes; OSU tries to limit the risk of mistakes, which, to me, seems to make the (current) team play tight, like they don't believe they can overcome mistakes. In high pressure situations that has proven to be the case.

I started losing hope after the pick-6. But I thought we could make it a game if we made the proper adjustments and came out with a fire under our asses. Neither happened, hence my user title.
