JoePa brings his pitch to First State

Penn State coach visits recruits at Salesianum, Howard

By BUDDY HURLOCK, The News Journal Posted Wednesday, January 17, 2007

Paterno has landed Delaware players before, but this foray into the First State was different, since Paterno made a stop at two schools -- Salesianum and Howard, home to standout tight end Andrew Szczerba and two-way lineman Devon Still, respectively.

Penn State linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden, who made the trip with Paterno, said the Delaware schools are the only two Paterno is visiting to speak with prospective recruits.

"I take it that I have accomplished a lot by him coming down here," Still said. "They must really want me there, so I am just taking it all in."

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel visited Howard three weeks ago, and another visit by three Buckeyes assistant coaches is scheduled Thursday.

It is comments about graduating these guys that really gets me irked...

It is not the coach that gets these kids thru school it is the player himself...

That is for another time and place tho...Back to Still and I still have my fingers crossed...

i guess leading the B10 for the past 3 years in 3.0 students doesnt account for much...at least not to PSU and their spin doctors

Still holding out hope Devon will see the light and not be blinded by the reflection from Joe Pa's coke bottles.

Not to go off topic, but JT needs to do a better sell job to the kids, the HS coaches AND the media on this point. Cannot blame Coach Johnson for sticking it to us where we are the softest, even if it isn't 100% true. We had the best fans in the land last year, make 2007 the recognition of the OSU athlete all year. Make a big freeken deal out of it so ESPN and the papers pick it up.

Good luck to Devon no matter where he ends up PSU or tOSU.
