Devin Gardner (official thread)

Devin Gardner once burned an Ohio State recruiting letter, says he's ready to play in 'The Game'

ANN ARBOR -- Devin Gardner was once recruited by Urban Meyer to play football at Florida.

But he doesn't want to talk about that.

The Michigan junior was also offered a scholarship, once upon a time, by Ohio State. And several years later, Gardner says he cannot find that Jim Tressel-issued offer letter.

Because he burned it.

"Yes, I did (burn the letter)," Gardner admitted with a laugh Monday. "But I had already committed to the University of Michigan.

"And I was pretty bitter that they didn't offer me a scholarship."

1. Gardner can throw the ball.

2. Denard gets to play where he should have for the last two years were it not for the lack of another QB. Fills in nicely for the loss of Touisant, gives Gardner a receiver who can catch the ball.

3. Hoke had some interesting plays set up to feature both. Rich Rod with half a brain.

4. I still like the Bucks at home.

I would love to hear the justification for this from the NCAA

I am happy for Devin, he is a likeable player and it isn't his fault RR wasted his freshman season to send his backup QB a message, but he was not unable to play, or he would have been left off the travel squad. Or you know, listed on an injury report after the injury occurred rather than later in the year when they didn't need him long enough to start wondering if they could weasel their way into a hardship waiver.

Michigan and Gardner have now set the precedent at every big time program for how to game the system. Give your stud freshman QB some snaps in the first 3-4 games of the year to get his feet wet; diagnose an undiagnosable back injury at the beginning of league play when the rook wouldn't be used anyway, and set up the scenario for the red-shirt. Five years to play five years. I don't see this situatioin going un-noticed in the SEC. This one stunk three years ago and it still smells now. Curious to see if the high and mighty mich-men have the nerve to try it again.

Are we forgetting one thing about the Devin RS?

Not to rain on anyone's parade because people are losing their mind over this, but we still have to consider its a real possibility he leaves for the NFL after this season.

Thank goodness they have Shane Morris to take over when DG leaves for the NFL after next season.

So they're justifying straight up cheating with the fact that Gardner might not fulfill his end of the cheating by leaving?

Or are they excited about the extra year, ignoring the underhanded cheating and are sad that it might not come to fruition?

What surprises me is that this is the first instance I can recall where a player was granted a medical year before exhausting his eligibility. All the cases I can recall they had to finish their fifth season before being granted a sixth.
