After last season, you'd think the hockey gods would give the Red Wings a break from injuries this year.
But no, the Wings' depth is going to be tested again.
Center Mike Modano, in his first season with the Wings, is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery Saturday morning.
Modano's right wrist was cut by one of the Blu Jackets' skates in the second period of Friday night's 2-1 victory. He left the game and did not return.
The severity of the injury was not known immediately after the game. It turned out to be a severed tendon and slight nerve damage.
After the game, Modano returned to Detroit with the team. Saturday morning he had surgery on the wrist at the Detroit Medical Center.
Lights go out on Red Wings, Sharks
Turn out the lights, the party's over.
Not exactly.
The lights went out for some unknown reason and the party, err hockey game, might never get started.
According to a report on the San Jose Mercury News website, there is a power outage at HP Pavillion, home of the Sharks. There is no official word on the postponement of tonight's Red Wings-Sharks game, but it's a possibility.

This year has been completely different. The team has avoided the injury bug for the most part *knock on wood* and they haven't dug themselves a hole to climb out of with uninspired/crappy play.
