Oh thank the Hockey Gods! Per the Free Press's Helene St. James, Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom has decided to play for another season:
asdfasdf
Detroit - The Detroit Red Wings say they've re-signed forward Darren Helm to a two-year contract. The team isn't revealing the terms.
The 23-year-old was originally Detroit's fifth round pick, taken 132nd overall in 2005.
Last season was Helm's first full season in the NHL. He appeared in 75 games, making 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points.
Chris Chelios officially retires, rejoins Wings in front-office role
FOX Sports Detroit wires
Detroit -- Chris Chelios made it official Tuesday, retiring after 26 NHL seasons and joining the Red Wings in a front-office role.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of this game at the highest level for a long time,” said Chelios. “I’ve met a lot of great people and developed some special relationships along the way."

Hope I'm wrong, but they clearly ran out of gas last year in the playoffs. I hope there isn't a carry over effect.

Goodbye to another grinder?
To anyone outside of Detroit, it probably sounds obscene.
But to those of us in Hockeytown, there's nothing sexual about the The Grind Line.
The mere mention of it conjures up images of the Red Wings’ fourth line -- Joe Kocur, Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby -- mucking it up in the corners during a magical run to a Stanley Cup title in 1997.
It was the Red Wings' first championship in more than four decades. And while the lasting snapshot will be captain Steve Yzerman raising the Cup near center ice as streamers rained down on Joe Louis Arena, another picture perfect comes to mind, too: Maltby battling Colorado's Eric Messier for a loose puck during the Western Conference finals.
The picture was featured on the June, 3, 1997, cover of Sports Illustrated with the headline "Hot Wings: Detroit stuns defending champion Colorado to reach the Stanley Cup Finals." It preceded the Red Wings' Cup finals sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers the following week.
Maltby -- Malts, as he’s affectionately known here -- had five goals and two assists during the ’97 playoffs, his best postseason numbers ever. He also racked up 24 penalty minutes as the Red Wings rattled off 16 victories in 20 playoff games.
