Desmond Howard (traitor and whiny btch)

There better be some rules and regulations soon or the long term outlook for the sport doesn't look bright.

There’s a part of me that agrees with you. A big part. But his comments aren’t about the future of the sport. Honestly, when’s the last time you’ve seen him make a comment that wasn’t completely self-serving for tsun? FFS, when they lit up that bridge with blue and yellow lights for the Ukraine he thought it was about tsun. This ain’t no different. It’s a coincidence. A coincidence only in that his self-serving view happens to correspond with a larger picture / enlightened viewpoint.

Rules and regulations to tell the kids what they can and can't make? That kind of flies against the newly minted laws, not rules, that say the kids can receive comp for use of their NIL.

There is no new NCAA coming to police this. Go compete. Use your brains and balls or get left behind to die. It's simple, fair and the way things should be.

As far as the future of the sport goes, my crystal ball is in the shop but I can't see how paying kids = death of CFB.

Yes. I understand you're gung ho about the bidding wars and that's fine. Not telling you to not enjoy it or stop watching. But that kills a lot of the love of the game for me and I think for quite a few others too. I don't care much for pro sports because there isn't much of a personal connection to any of those teams; it's just business. With NIL and unlimited transferring, that special connection and school pride is going by the wayside and that's a massive part of what makes the game great, imo.

Not bashing the kids or saying they shouldn't be allowed to make money. But the way things are where A&M shells out $30M for some 5 stars, half of whom will transfer within 2 years, is not appealing to me.

Every sport needs at least some semblance of structure and regulation anyway. College football and basketball have practically none. That's not a good recipe for long term fan interest.

Oh, I agree. My comment was not meant to support that fuckstick in anyway. I was just commenting on the topic in general. Fuck Desmond

I would counter that it's more about adjusting fan "interest" than anything else. For instance, what turns you off about kids getting paid? How does that change the sport? I ask because, hopefully, you understand that they have always been paid.

That's literally what I was going to say. It's ironic how now so many fans are sanctimonious and self righteous when kids are getting paid out in the open in a legal fashion. But those same fans had no problem with the McDonald's bags, Duffel bags, sketchy meetings, secret jobs for parents, etc...

I also don't understand the complaints of thinking that college sports are NOW just businesses. They've always been about business! Why do you think the SEC puffs its chest out every year? Programs look for competitive advantages every year, with or without NIL. If they aren't out right paying players, they're over signing, giving BS satellite camps to target specific players, giving parents jobs, heck Bama literally destroyed the UAB football program because they saw them as a threat! Does that help with the special connection to a school? For those that want "purity" of CFB, and that special connection, like I've said before, go root for Tiffin or Wittenburg.

Every sport needs at least some semblance of structure and regulation anyway. College football and basketball have practically none. That's not a good recipe for long term fan interest.
My argument is, when has there ever been a semblance of structure and regulation in college sports? There have been scandals in college sports since its inception! If anything, what aTm is paying isn't anything compared to the amount that they earn off of these players. The $30mil aTm shelled out was peanuts since they probably sold a few more season ticket packages, more VIP event tickets, etc. So whether the kids stay or not, they're money will be made back easily.
Fans will root for winners. So fans will enjoy if their team is in the hunt. OSU fans will complain, but when we beat scUM and get into the CFP, most will root or remain silent about NIL. And if we win the CFP, I envision any of those fans complaining about NIL to be quiet or forget about their protests all together. Its easy to complain in the off season and when your team didn't get into the CFP hunt late last season. Success gives many amnesia

I lived in a schizophrenic reality. One "me" believed that the football team was made up of students, young men who came to Ohio State to get an education and were willing to put in extra work in order to do so for free. They were amateurs in every sense of the word.

The other "me" realized that even in 1961, the university was hiring young men to kick the shit out of other young men, that many of them were there for football and were willing to pay the price of having to go to class in order to do so and hope to grab the brass ring of an NFL paycheck. So, ok, they were "semi-professionals."

NIL has presented me with the need to see that this is now NFL light. The rest is just pretense.

“I would like to say that I don't think anybody should be the (Heisman) frontrunner besides Bryce Young since he’s the returning winner of the Heisman,” Howard said on College Football Live. “I don’t think that C.J. Stroud or anybody else should be even neck to neck right now with Bryce Young. I think when you look at C.J. Stroud, he’s going to have some big games opening up the season against Notre Dame, that’s a marquee matchup, but just at the beginning when no games are played for him to be the favorite, I just don’t get it.”

“For me, as a former winner and as a voter, it’s Bryce Young against the field.”

Just sayin': Yeah, Howard is still an asshole.

Shocking take from Captain Brainworms
Solid follow up to his performance at the Heisman ceremony. It’s nice when a 52 y/o uses their platform to essentially harass players. Really says a lot about him as a professional and person in general.

He can make his brainworm point without specifically calling out anyone, especially the player he’s gone out of his way to embarrass in the past with inappropriate, idiotic comments.
