Notebook: A busy OSU recruiting week

The quarterback carousel continues this weekend as far as unofficial visits go.

After housing Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner) on opening weekend against Miami (Ohio) and Joey Duckworth (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) two weeks ago against UCF, Ohio State is at it again in a big way.

DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) highlights the list of recruits who will make the trip to Columbus on Saturday to watch the Buckeyes take on the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

DeShone Kizer puts OSU near top of list
October, 8, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

Quarterback DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) is still thinking about the Buckeyes after his first trip to see a game at Ohio Stadium. On hand Saturday for Ohio State?s 63-38 win over Nebraska, the ESPN Watch List junior walked away impressed by everything the Buckeyes were about in the win.

?I liked it a lot,? Kizer said. ?Ohio State is definitely near the top of my list. I definitely wanted to get a feel for what it would be like down on the field for a game.

?I can?t get over how nice the fans are. They?re truly die-hard fans. Leaving the game, it boosted them up on my list. I definitely like Ohio State.?

Ohio quarterback likes Spartans

One of the top quarterback prospects in the Midwest for the class of 2014 is Deshone Kizer of Toledo Central Catholic High School.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Kizer has an impressive list of scholarship offers which includes MSU, Nebraska, Tennessee, Illinois, Penn State and Arkansas among others.

Kizer has been to East Lansing several times and has been impressed with what Michigan State has to offer. He recently informed Rivals.com Midwest Analyst Josh Helmholdt the following:

?Right now, Michigan State has become sort of a leader just for the fact that I have been there quite a few times," Kizer said. "Coach [Mark] Dantonio, Coach [Dave] Warner or the area [recruiting] coach came down once a week, so they really have been putting the full-court press on me.?

Kizer is one of several quarterbacks that Michigan State has offered for the class of 2014. The Spartans are only taking 1 quarterback this year so it will likely come down to a situation where the first player to make his choice will get the spot.

Having an early commitment from a quarterback is usually a very positive aspect when it comes to recruiting. A high-profile quarterback recruit like Kizer would certainly provide momentum to the Spartans class of 2014 and serve as a recruiter himself.

Rivals.com ranks Kizer as a 4-star recruit. He is one of only 3 quarterbacks in the entire Midwest region ranked that high.

"I think that Michigan State, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky and Louisville have really stepped up in the recruiting game," Kizer said. "Right now I would say them along with and Ohio State, who hasn't offered, and I would add in a Rutgers, are the seven schools I have kind of narrowed it down to right now."

I bet you anything if and when Ohio St. offers him, he'll commit pretty quickly to them.
