Senior running back Amir Edwards led a balanced Irish ground game (362 yards) with 156 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and 6-foot-5 junior quarterback DeShone Kizer was 7-of-9 passing for 78 yards and a score, plus rushed five times for 70 yards and a TD as Central moved to 2-0.

Kizer opened the drive with a 17-yard completion to Paul Moses and closed it by connecting with tight end Keith Towbridge on a 32-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline.

Kizer was 9-of-15 passing for 128 yards, while Slocum finished 14-of-30 for 117. Central rushed for 216 yards and limited the Jackets to 13 net rushing yards on 19 attempts.

On his first visit to Michigan State, DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) fell in love with the campus. On his second visit, it was pretty much the same, except it was the atmosphere and fans that made the biggest impression.

The 2014 dual-threat quarterback already holds eight offers, and it might not be long before Michigan State becomes team No. 9 and makes Kizer only the second quarterback the Spartans have offered in the 2014 class.

?They said they?re going to meet up the next couple games and come see me play and that I?m high up on their list and want me to be a Spartan,? Kizer said. ?I feel great vibes from the coaches and the relationships are there.?

Michigan, OSU evaluating DeShone Kizer

With nine offers including six from BCS programs, Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic?s DeShone Kizer is ahead of the curve as far as 2014 quarterbacks go. But when you?re in Toledo, the two programs that always will be around the top of any recruit's list are Michigan and Ohio State.

Those two schools have not offered the 6-foot-5, 208-pound dual-threat quarterback, but he is toward the top of each staff?s recruiting board.

Ohio State has offered three 2014 quarterbacks, but two are already committed elsewhere. The remaining 2014 quarterbacks are still being evaluated, Kizer among them.

?I give Coach [Tom] Herman a call every week,? said Kizer, referring to the Buckeyes? quarterbacks coach. ?They just want to see how your junior season goes and from there make a decision.?
