DeShaun Watson (QB Cleveland Browns)

How the fuck does that work exactly?

I have been talking with my friends on this, they are appealing themselves? I somewhat understand there is a supposedly neutral tribunal involved (?), but the whole process seems odd. As to the decision itself, I am scratching my head. If he sexually assaulted several women, then he should be out at least a year and probably for good. If the evidence was weak to support that claim, then no suspension at all. I predicted the NFL would go halfway no matter what because that is what they do (not on this site, just in conversation), but it just baffles me how you come up with a 6 game suspension in this scenario.

Right, they didn't think through anything but the players appealing, where the players would appeal and then the NFL would say, "Ah ha! Fuck off, neutral arbitrator!"

Now they're talking to a mirror.

I'm not sure how you come up with the particular number of 6, but he is paying the settlements, so there's at least some tarnishing of the Shield or however they like to say it.

*I'm not making an argument one way or the other what the number SHOULD be or if the punishment should fit the crime one way or the other.

Yeah goodell has for years set himself up as judge jury and executioner. It's BS but honestly it's been going on so long at this point they should have used their leverage of a new collective bargaining agreement to get rid of it first time they had the chance. But that doesn't seem to matter to them until Players Association cries foul a star got screwed over then goes back to ignoring it again as an issue till the next time

Whatever you think of the process, and it is odd, it was agreed to be the Players Association in the CBA. Part of me is surprised the League appealed the arbitrator's decision. On one hand, I can see them wanting to look tough. On the other, they could've let the story die by accepting the arbitrator's decision.

Now they're likely going to drop the hammer, Watson's legal team takes it to federal court, and the story stays alive. It's not a good look for anyone involved.

I’m sure they will find a resolution that will result in absolutely no criticism of the NFL from all the people who would criticize accepting the arbitrator’s decision.

Yeah I think the decision was horseshit and he deserved more games. But also I think it's wild the Players Association allows Goodell to be Judge Jury and Execution. The NFL process literally says NFL can appeal then it can go to Goodell or someone he chooses and their decision is final. Who the fuck agrees to that? and let alone keeps that in place for what nearly 20 years

As one source explained it on Friday, Harvey is delaying the ruling to give the NFL and the NFL Players Association a chance to work out a compromise.

The league currently holds all the cards. However, a settlement would avoid a potential challenge to the suspension in federal court. The NFL possibly hopes to avoid arguments that would compare the punishment imposed on Watson to discipline (or lack thereof) experienced by owners for actual or potential violations. Under the Personal Conduct Policy, owners are supposed to be held to a higher standard.

Judge Robinson found that Watson committed four instances of non-violent sexual assault. Those findings are binding on the appeal process. She also found that he wasn’t truthful with investigators, and she described the conduct as “egregious” and “predatory.”

Watson reportedly is willing to accept an eight-game suspension and a $5 million fine. The question is whether he’d go higher under either category in order to resolve the situation — and whether the league will go below the potential floor of 12 games.

Lawsuit accuses Browns' Deshaun Watson of sexual assault, battery

A new civil lawsuit filed in Houston on Monday accuses Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and battery in October 2020, when he was a member of the Houston Texans.

According to the lawsuit, the alleged actions occurred before Watson and a woman, who goes by the pseudonym "Jane Doe" in the court filing, were set to have dinner at the woman's apartment.

The lawsuit states that Watson met the woman, a single mother, at a Houston restaurant and bar, managed to get her phone number and initially attempted to have her meet him at the Houston Galleria for a date. Reluctant to meet Watson in public, the woman instead agreed to a dinner date at her apartment, according to the lawsuit.

On the evening of the date, according to the lawsuit, she said Watson had trouble finding her apartment and began aggressively yelling and screaming at her on the phone, saying he didn't "have time for this."

The lawsuit alleges that, while applying makeup in her bathroom, the woman then found Watson "completely naked on her bed, lying face down on his stomach." Watson then requested the woman massage his buttocks and the woman "tried to appease Watson by rubbing his back, rather than his buttocks," according to the lawsuit.

Watson then turned over and "continued to demand that Jane Doe massage him, gesturing from his knees to his groin," according to the lawsuit. The woman told Watson that she was not a masseuse, to which Watson asked her what she wanted to do instead, the suit alleges.

Before the woman could answer, Watson "partially disrobed Jane Doe and penetrated her vagina without consent, implicit or explicit," according to the lawsuit, which also alleges that Watson sexually assaulted the woman for several minutes before she escaped and grabbed a heavy piece of decor for self-defense. Watson then "stormed out of Jane Doe's apartment," according to the lawsuit.

New lawsuit against Deshaun Watson resolved, lawyers say

One month after a new lawsuit was filed accusing Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and battery, the case has been resolved, according to the plaintiff's lawyer.

"We have now resolved our client's claim with Deshaun Watson," attorney Tony Buzbee told ESPN Monday night on behalf of the woman. "The settlement is confidential."

Watson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, later also confirmed that the case has been resolved.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed Sept. 9 in Harris County, Texas, the alleged actions occurred in October 2020 before Watson and a woman, identified as Jane Doe in the court filing, were set to have dinner at her apartment. Watson was a member of the Houston Texans at the time.

Watson denied the allegations in a statement issued by Hardin. The NFL has been reviewing the complaint under the personal conduct policy, but the league did not place Watson on the commissioner's exempt list because there have been no formal charges filed and the review had just begun.

A league spokesperson declined to comment Monday night.

Next week's offense needs to be all QB runs until Watson voids the rest of his contract. Just have the paperwork on the sideline and as soon as he signs it Crab Legs is in the game and Watson is free to go anywhere he wants. This franchise is ruined as long as they are paying him. It really is too bad they wasted all of the resources on Watson when they probably could have gone with any slightly above-average game manager to win more games for 1/4 of the money.

At this point, I wouldn't risk what Chubb has left in the tank this season. See if they can renegotiate for a few years. Outside of Njoku, the entire offense needs to be rebuilt. Bitonio is probably ready to retire. Wills will be gone. Conklin can't stay healthy. Dawand is overweight. The rest of the OL is hurt. The WR's are either old or overrated. The defense is ok, but has holes. If we'd only had first-round picks the past 3 years...

If they draft Sanders I'm officially done.
