DeShaun Watson (QB Cleveland Browns)

The Post and Courier - Five-star QB commitment Deshaun Watson says he?s sticking with Clemson in 2014

2/13

CLEMSON ? The perception has been that five-star quarterback prospect Deshaun Watson?s commitment to Clemson for 2014 is tied to offensive coordinator Chad Morris remaining at Clemson after next season, and Morris? status seems tenuous after he spoke with several schools about head coaching openings last offseason.

But the 6-4, 195-pound Watson told TigerIllustrated.com this week that he will sign with Clemson next year regardless of whether Morris is still with the program.

The dual-threat Watson would be an elite prospect to build a class around.

Clemson starting quarterback Tajh Boyd is a senior. Behind Boyd is sophomore Cole Stoudt and redshirt freshman Chip Kelly, also a highly-touted recruit who was hand picked by Morris.

Watson, a junior, has already broken a number of state passing records in Georgia.

I'll believe the bolded when I see it. I think he would definitely flip if that were to happen. The more and more I hear about his recruitment though, I do think he'll be going to Clemson if Morris stays.

Remember when Dontre Wilson was going to stick with Oregon regardless of what Chip Kelly decided to do? We're a year away from the day that matters. If we get him on campus, I like our chances.

Whats there not to believe? Thats been understood for some time now.
My point is this thread doesn't have a "; Verbal Offer" in its title and the mods are usually good at changing that to reflect offers. I'm not sure I'll take 11W's word over the mods at this point.

On the other hand, Gibson ('15 QB from Florida) already reports an offer. It confuses me no end.

He has an offer. When he verbaled to Clemson, the 'Verbal Offer' was dropped. I'll add it again since he's a soft verbal.

We're not talking about a new recruit here. We're talking about virtually the entire basket when it comes to 2014 quarterback recruiting.

Not only does Watson have an offer, but Meyer is recruiting him personally.

My apologies. I've been trying to find a job lately, and in the chaos that is my ongoing search, I forgot to do the most basic thing and check the first post.

Clemson's top football recruit still considering UGA
By Michael Carvell

The state?s top college football prospect at quarterback is committed to Clemson, but says he plans to visit UGA and Ohio State this summer.

DeShaun Watson is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior who led Gainesville High School to a state championship last year in football. Watson is ranked as a 5-star recruit by Rivals and holds the state?s career records for passing yards and touchdown passes with one season left to play.

?I?m still committed to Clemson, but I?m still looking around at Ohio State and UGA right now; it?s between those three,? Watson told Rivals on Sunday at the Atlanta Rivals Series camp presented by Under Armour.

What does Watson like about UGA? ?Just the way they run the offense, and the way Coach Richt coaches his team,? Watson said. ?I?ve always been kind of a fan of UGA. It?s just down the street from my hometown. They?ve got a good relationship with my mom, and I just want to keep them in it, too.?

And Ohio State? "I've always been inerested in Urban Meyer and what he does on offense ... I haven't visited the campus yet, but I'm going to go up there this summer and see what's it like."

Watson said he hasn?t had time to visit colleges because he was a member of Gainesville?s basketball team which made appearance in last month?s state championship game. Then, Watson went on spring break. Since returning, he has been training for prospect camps and his team?s spring practices. He will have some free time this summer to tour campuses.

Watson is the state?s best QB prospect out of Georgia since Cam Newton, the former 5-star from Westlake High School.

O-Zone - Nation's Top Quarterback Still Looking at Ohio State

4/10

"I've always been interested in Urban Meyer and what he does on offense. I haven't visited the campus yet, but I'm going to go up there this summer and see what's it like."

As with 99.9% of out-of-state recruiting, getting a recruit on campus is the first major step. Once that happens, the game is officially afoot.

Helping Ohio State's cause in this recruitment could be Watson's relationship to a handful of other top Georgia prospects who are high on the Buckeyes.

Among them are linebacker Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, GA) and receiver Demarre Kitt (Tyrone, GA), who have both come out recently and declared Ohio State as their leader. Kitt and Watson have talked about playing in college together, so if the Buckeyes can get Kitt locked up, he may become their best recruiter.

The fact that Watson has Ohio State in his top three without even visiting is certainly a plus for the Buckeyes. He has visited Clemson numerous times, as well as his home state Georgia. A visit to Columbus would only seem to enhance Ohio State's chances in this race.

An interesting note about Watson's recruitment is that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney reportedly has a "no visit" policy for his verbal commitments, which means that he doesn't want players who are committed to Clemson visiting any other schools.

Last year, Clemson had verbal commitments visit other schools, so Swinney simply dropped them and stopped recruiting them. That policy is easy to enforce when it comes to a three-star linebacker, but don't expect Swinney to swing the same hammer when it comes to Watson this summer.

Also complicating matters for Clemson is the possibility that this could be offensive coordinator Chad Morris's last season with the Tigers, as many expect him to land a head coaching job soon. Watson has said in the past that Morris leaving won't affect his decision, but high school kids have been known to change their minds in the past.

Harris, Barker, and Henderson also mentioned...
