DeShaun Watson (QB Cleveland Browns)

Urban Meyer visits DeShaun Watson

DeShaun Watson remains a highly sought-after commodity.
Urban Meyer is perhaps the fiercest recruiter in the business, so Ohio State fans have to like their chances with current Clemson commit DeShaun Watson.

Meyer paid a visit to Gainesville (Ga.) on Tuesday to check in on Watson, who committed to Clemson on National Signing Day last year as a sophomore.

Watson was superb as a junior. He threw for over 4,000 yards and 50 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 1,500 yards and 24 scores, earning MaxPreps National Junior of the Year honors in the process. He already owns the Georgia career passing record, and has one year of eligibility remaining.

It would seem Watson would fit perfectly into Meyer's offense, which is perhaps one of the reasons it seems that Watson is entertaining Ohio State's overtures.

Georgia will also intensely recruit Watson, who will likely have his pick of colleges.

On Sunday, Watson made his debut on national television, as he was seen standing on the Falcons' sideline in Atlanta's 28-24 loss to the 49ers.

National Signing Day: Gainesville QB Watson near the top nationally for Class of 2014
By Bill Murphy [email protected]
POSTED: February 6, 2013

Gainesville High junior quarterback Deshaun Watson is well aware of the battles that go on for the top national prospects every season up until National Signing Day, which this year took place on Wednesday. Watson, the 2012 Associated Press Georgia Player of the Year, makes no promises that his will not go down to the wire either, even though he is currently verbally committed to Clemson University.

?I?d say I?m 95 percent sure I?ll sign with Clemson,? said Watson, who plans to graduated after his senior season is complete in December.

Who are the other schools that are clinging to that five percent for the state?s all-time passing leader? Right now, Watson says Georgia and Ohio State.

A slight opening, a chink in the armor:
http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/college-recruiting/2013/feb/07/qb-phenom-leads-georgias-class-2014/

When Watson originally committed to Clemson, it was under a promise from the Tigers that they wouldn?t sign a quarterback in this year?s class. However, Clemson had a change of plans because of a sudden lack of depth at the position. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney personally explained the situation to Watson.
?I told Clemson that it was fine with me,? Watson said. ?I told them to do what?s best for the program. It?s not all about me. I?m not going to be selfish.?
Note: Clemson didn?t end up signing any quarterbacks this year, after Alpharetta?s Josh Dobbs (signed with Tennessee) declined a last-minute visit and Asianti Woulard of Winter Park, Fla., picked ULCA over the Tigers.

After reading the above, if JT was still the coach, I would say, we had no chance with Watson. With Urban Meyer, ya never know how things will turn out. I think that was the problem with the punter, no one in their right mind expected us to keep both Ezek, and Johnson, and sign all three of Bell, Clark and Wilson.
