To their credit, a lot of the fan base is extremely depressed about this whole thing and not optimistic at all about the future.

In fact, some of them are even retroactively calling the '97 half championship a fluke and lamenting the fact that they expect better than 3 loss seasons in the first place.

Then again, I'm sure when they win their first three games next year things will be upbeat again- at least for a little bit.

The seasons of scUM fan delusion;

Winter time and they will be running said cockholsters reckless at the first good recruiting news after the Bowl beat down.

Spring time rolls around and they will then morph that recruiting momentum with winter conditioning, spring football and a little basketball success and go charging into the summer full of optimism.

Summer comes and they repeat the narrative to themselves so many times it becomes the truth. "gardner can throw it into the ground with his eyes closed, Kalis lost 15 lbs so he'll be an AA" etc etc etc

Then the fall comes, September Heisman's and wins over ND lose their luster as the cold hard winds of Little Brother and OSU come calling.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
