PSU to play Indiana in Washington, D.C. in 2010

Penn State's football game against Indiana on Nov. 20, 2010 will be played in Washington, D.C. at FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins.

The game originally had been scheduled for Bloomington, but Indiana University made a deal with the Redskins to play at FedEx Field. The Redskins will pay Indiana $3 million, a lucrative deal for the Hoosiers, who according to the Herald Times of Bloomington make less than $1 million for a home game.

Indiana will be responsible for selling 7,000 tickets, its university Web site said. FedEx Field seats 91,704 fans, and it should feel more like a home game for Penn State with an overwhelming majority of the fans expected to be Nittany Lion supporters.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to play the 2010 Indiana football game at FedEx Field, one of the nation's premier sports facilities," PSU athletic director Tim Curley said in a university statement. "This game will provide a great chance for some of our players to play close to home and for our fans and the more than 40,000 Penn State alumni in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Washington, D.C. to see the Nittany Lions play in person

Cont'd ...

You could put it in post 646 where it is already posted.

LMAO...I guess that's what happens when your boss comes in when you're in the middle of typing your post and you get side tracked for 30 minutes. At least I feel good knowing that I'm in good company with BB73 in picking the thread. Now editing so I don't look like quite the dumbass. LOL

I hate PSU as much as anyone (except 27) but this is a non event to me.

1) Its freaking IU, its not like PSU is going to lose no matter where its played.
2) OSU has done the same with Northwestern playing at a "neutral" site in Ohio iirc.

I don't think people are complaining about PSU. The issue to me is that Indiana is giving up a home game in lieu of some cash. I don't blame PSU for taking them up on it or even suggesting it (and trust me I hate PSU), but Indiana for even considering it in the first place.

1) This is a bad precedent, including the NW - OSU game. How about paying off Iowa next year to play OSU in Cinci?

2) They just got their pals at FedEx field to buy themselves an extra home game.

3) Their fans now can buy up 95% of the tickets with a no-hotel, 3-hour trek... instead of the 10 hour (1 way) voyage now given to the "home" team.

4) Their recruits can now unofficially visit this game, unless there's some rule I don't know about... come to Penn State and play in your favorite teams' stadium! (even if that pitch only happens before & after the visit)

I agree. The Big Ten needs to step in on this one.
