I’m sure the Cult totally believed that and lapped it up, but that’s actually easily explained: “The Cone of Silence.”

State College is a NWS Doppler Radar site (KCCX), and that’s what you’re seeing there.
Just showed this thread to Joe Pa. Boy, was he pissed...but he didn't deny any of it. Interesting.

On a Friday? You cruel bastard.
Rolling that stone up that firey hill, just to have it roll back down again knows no timeTo be fair, the concept of a “weekend” doesn’t have much meaning where they are
So in 1960, the stadium held 46,000 people. It's now over 106,000 (as it was in 2011 when he coached his last game). That's a 130% increase. And he owes that whole increase to Paterno. In 1960, it was disassembled, moved to the current location and the capacity was increased to 46K.
Since then, the stadium has been expanded six times, reflecting Penn State's rise to national prominence under Joe Paterno—more than doubling in size in the process, from 46K to 106K. There is no reason that money would need to dictate the field being named after JVP, the man responsible for more seats in the stadium than its namesake.
