Removing the brick wall behind the statue might be more interesting.

You can't remove it as quietly as removing a statue. They're going to have to plow through it, which might make a good video.

They could just remove the lettering and put a dent in the brick. Then they'll have their Bill O'Brien statue.

2 birds, 1 stone.

Does it still say "humanitarian" on it? :shake:

You sure can tell it was a public sector job. - I counted 13 workers when 3 would have sufficed....... I went by a City worker job site up here in Toledo last week, the job was to repave a section of street about 30' x 8' I counted 8 trucks, 16 optic yellow tee shirts, and 1 ministeam roller. 12 "workers" were standing around the freshly paved section admiring the shininess of teh fresh pavement , one on the roller and three in their respective trucks. No wonder the city has a deficit........

The reality of that can be summed up with one word......

I just picture that scene with Michael Douglas in the movie "Falling Down" when he takes out the bazooka when he gets mad at the construction worker (i.e. What's wrong with the street?).

The extra workers were to probably create an extra buffer zone in case any of the Paterno supporters got unruly.

I am not sure that the lesson of all of this has been learned by college football fans. The lessons are the same ones that the issues with Coach Tressel should have taught us all.

  • Unless you know a college football coach, administrator, or player personally, you are not in a position to judge their character or anticipate their behavior. You have no idea what they would do in real life.
  • Never invest your personal identity in a college football team or its coaches and administrators, over whom you have no control. What they do is not a reflection on who you are.
  • Conspiracy theories are not the only explanation of press attacks on your team. It's clear that the press feed where fan bases are largest, knowing that adverse news gets readership. When the press attacks your team, sometimes the buggers are telling the truth.
I understand everyone's amazement and amusement, but if we're honest then we know that there would be a lot of folks on this board acting just like the cultists at Penn State, if such a scandal were revealed at Ohio State. And, let's be honest, few of us thought that tattoogate would rear its ugly head at Ohio State.

I'm certainly not comparing Coach Tressel's failure to reveal what he knew about the tattoos on a declaration form compares in any way to the horror of Penn State personnel covering up the sexual abuse of children. I am not saying that this entire affair and everyone's behavior around it is not disgusting or that Penn State apologists and their justifications of Paterno's behavior are not creepy.

I'm saying that Penn State apologists act like this because they haven't learned these three lessons and that we should learn from their behavior. Urban Meyer is not a saint and neither is Archie Griffin or any one of us.

I like to think that Ohio State is a place that promotes good in the world, changing forever to the good the lives of people who study there. I benefitted greatly from what I learned at Ohio State and the help people there gave me after I graduated. I have always tried to return that to people studying at Ohio State and to the people of Columbus.

And that is precisely the point. When you try to pay back or pay forward, you get invested emotionally. It becomes very hard to accept that the people "my people" could do something so incredibly evil. Do I think that this could ever happen at Ohio State? A thousand times, no! That is why we should not make the mistake of thinking that it never could.

Steve I hear what your are saying and wholeheartedly agree. I think another thing to take away from this and the JT situation is something called personal integrity.

Your integrity is personal. It goes with you through your life and follows beyond. You and you alone are in charge of and responsible for your integrity.
