Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Apache;1052902; said:
Coach Paterno has done so many great things for this university as a coach and as a man. However, now the question is, "What have you done for me lately?"

Sadly, being competitive, solid, running a clean program and being fundamentally sound is not good enough anymore. Many want headlines no matter what the story really is. The next time I hear someone like Jay Mariotti slam Coach Paterno, I may get on a plane and punch his light out. Those morons are more interested in making news and being controversial than reporting the news.

I am a supporter of Coach Paterno and I can remember his sitting down with me years ago at a football clinic and talking philosophy and strategy for over an hour. He didn't have to do that. But he cared enough about a young coach (at that time) to guide and help him along.

Joe Pa will know himself when he can no longer guide this program. Perhaps it is that time, but it is not my place or anyone outside of that administration to make that call.

But I must say: GO BUCKS:osu:
You're fucking kidding, right?
How long ago was that?

Source: 3 Penn State players booted

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Three Penn State football players charged in connection with a campus fight last fall have been kicked off the team, at least temporarily, a person familiar with the players' status said Friday.
Defensive tackle Chris Baker and linebacker Navorro Bowman are awaiting trial on felony assault and other charges related to a fight in October at the campus student union.

Cornerback Knowledge Timmons was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and defiant trespass stemming from an incident after the fight.
The three players are no longer with the team, though it's possible they could return to the squad, said the person familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject.

In a statement, the school said: "Three members of the squad have been excused from the team."

Paterno's inactivity hurts PSU recruiting
Frank Bodani

Article Last Updated: 01/28/2008 08:44:38 AM EST

Jan 28, 2008 ? There once was a time when Joe Paterno would walk into the home of a Terrelle Pryor and convince him to come to Penn State.
There was a time.
Now, though, the 81-year-old coach rarely, if ever, goes on the road to visit a top-flight recruit like the Pittsburgh-area quarterback.
And now, unless Paterno and the university change their ways, recruits like Pryor will come less and less because they have no idea who the next coach at Penn State will be, even though it's sure to change during their college careers. They don't know when. They don't know who to believe.
It's this lack of recruiting effort at the top, as well as a lack of a clear coaching succession plan, that seem to be dividing the Penn State staff, damaging recruiting and slowly bleeding the program to death.
Which means the Nittany Lions won't produce on the field like they should.
And you have to point the finger at Paterno, like him or not. Recruiting season has reached its final, crucial days where big-time coaches are traveling everywhere to convince high school stars to join them.
But not Paterno.
He is either too old, too frail or simply not interested in visiting recruits' homes to seal deals anymore, and it's damaging the Lions' hopes of attracting national stars - which is a necessity these days. Honestly, the Lions struggle to compete in that regard with Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame and others.

The PA natives are getting restless. I like Joe, he's a regular guy.

Of course, so would anybody who drinks a daily quart of prune juice.

JoPa was a great coach and had a great career. Unfortunately he doesn't recognize that the time has come to step down and "pass the torch to a younger guy". My guess is: if he was the undisputed all time leader in wins he would be gone; however, both he and Bobby Bowden want to go out on top and are hanging on until the other leaves first so they can retire with he most wins.

Have heard rumblings he's in failing health and can't travel. And may have difficulty being on the sidelines in the Spring. Just sad. :(
But, bottom line his ego is the problem. That's what it gets down to.

Patriot-News (Harrisburg, PA): Paterno may have choice to make too

Like seemingly everything else in CFB today, even Joe Pa's future and his integrity is being tied to TP's choice. Say what you will about the guy, but, like Lllloyd, it's quite an absurd stretch to try and cast his integrity into doubt. The guy finished earning his stripes a long time ago.

Paterno may have choice to make, too
If Pryor picks Lions, coach's reputation for loyalty will be tested

Nick Horvath
Wednesday, February 13, 2008

When coveted football recruit Terrelle Pryor finally decides on a school, and if he happens to choose Penn State, it could accelerate the end of coach Joe Paterno's legendary career at Happy Valley. Pryor's presence at Penn State, while partisans would be overjoyed, could well be cause for much consternation and be the litmus test for Paterno's well-deserved reputation as a fierce loyalist.

At age 81, Paterno may well be placed in a position where the coach will find it almost impossible to win -- hearts, not necessarily games, although he needs both these days.

Pryor, as you know by now, is a 6-6, 225-pound quarterback phenom many scouts insist is cut from the same run-pass mold as Randall Cunningham and Vincent Young. His talents are the ideal fit for the popular and successful spread offense.

Pryor's presence at Penn State would force Paterno and his coaching staff to make serious decisions at the ultra-important quarterback position in 2008, given the returnees.

The obvious questions are these:

Does he repay backup quarterback-in-waiting Daryll Clark for sitting patiently the past two seasons behind overmatched and scatter-armed Anthony Morelli, a guy who thought "pocket presence" meant possessing a money clip?

Does he repay passer-in-waiting Pat Devlin, who reneged on a verbal commitment to Miami to join the Nittany Lions, by giving him a legitimate chance this spring and fall to win the starting job?

Does he redshirt Pryor, America's No. 1 recruit, who almost certainly would be a freshman starter if he chose Michigan?

Does he use a two-QB system with Pryor and/or Clark and Devlin, much like Urban Meyer did at Florida with Chris Leak and Tim Tebow to win a national championship?

Does he simply name the multitalented Pryor the starter and let the chips -- and loyalty -- fall where they may with Clark and Devlin?

Regardless of what avenue Paterno chooses, it almost certainly will aggravate 50 percent or more of the fan base at a time when the coach, angling for more time beyond the 2008 season, needs all the support he can muster.

Have you seen the thread showing the 58 Penn State arrests with little to no repercussions relating to playing time?

good thing he hasn't achieved the status of "legend" yet, but i'm sure once he starts punching opposing players upside the neck, he'll be a lock.

that did it... we're dooooooomed!

[rant] dude's clearly a marketing communications grad. typical psu fan... genetically-inherited obstinacy and insularity always taken to new levels. not the foggiest clue about how deluded and backwards they are with the parochial arrogance to actually put something like this up on the internet thinking it will trump the influence of CFB's recruiting masterminds and bring moses back to the mountain... :shake:

grew up having to hear this farcical crap from these gonads! freakin' tools they are! take your greasy ponytail over to the five-and-dime and buy a freakin' clue! [/rant]

the shades are classic... the dry erase board in the background just screams permanence and reliability. chevy ought to think about having this guy do the next round of silverado commercials. john mellencamp is a wuss...

"highlights" from psu's multimedia communications site (these are not photoshops, seriously)...
