Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

I am actually facinated by the cult mind set in Slappy Valley

An alum had posted the reasons he went to Ped State, and Joe Pa was not one of them. A few are giving him props, but then you see stuff like this in their posts as well:

Re: My perspective as an anti-apologist for Joe and '06 grad Reply

I get what you are saying, I really do. Engineering was the reason I choose PSU, not Joe Paterno or the football team.

However, two wrongs do not make a right, and trashing someones entire life's work based on shall we say "interpretations", "impressions", and "emotions" is just not right either. I want the facts, and will accept the facts when they are presented, I have not seen many facts yet, just alot of speculation.

Week or so? Try years.

I don't believe they've hit bottom yet, in fact. This is going to drag out for a long time, imo.

I guess I didn't say that properly.

Who is going to start taking shots at Penn State? Will it be the lawyers for the families or will it be the feds?

That's what I'm waiting for - Ped State isn't going to recover from this for at least a decade, maybe more.

Just a side long observation or two here:

1) How'd you like to be the new PSU coach? Think about being offered and buying into the job at a school with terriffic facilities, a huge and supportive alum base, a 109K capacity stadium, an impressive football history, a sound state program to recruit from and then in 6 months, this.

2) At a time when many of us on here - me included- have derided the SEC, Oklahoma, aTm, for their insane fans and lack of concern for academics, the Big 10's third major player turns into an institution that covers for a pedophile coach.

How'd you like to be the Controller?

He knew, or at least should have known, what he was potentially (likely?) getting himself into. Hell, "this" is the reason he got the job in the first place. BoB got the job because the 64 coaches PSU offered before BoB had options, laughed in the face of the ped staters, and told them to fuck off. BoB decided to roll the dice on PSU since he was likely to get replaced by Josh McDaniels.

Now that all of this is out there, it will be very interesting to see how the dust settles in the coming week or so.

I would imagine the lawsuits will be filed shortly. There's really no reason to wait now.

A couple civil suits have already been filed. One from a victim that was not a part of the JS trial...

Report: Civil Suit Against Jerry Sandusky?s Charity Alleges Abuse Began In The 1970s

Now that Jerry Sandusky's officially a convicted pedophile, it was only a matter of time until the avalanche of civil lawsuits against him began pouring forth. According to Johnstown, Pa., television station WJAC, the first one since last week's verdict was filed today on behalf of three of the victims Sandusky is guilty of abusing, plus another victim who had already filed suit against Penn State last month.

Which is exactly why the Big Ten needs to seriously consider kicking them out of the conference. And yes, it has everything to do with football. The ends that Pedterno and his minions went to protect the image of the State Penn football program, at a cost that is well beyond anything close to what I could have ever imagined, is not what our conference is about.

I was damn near in tears tonight watching some news about this and we have know this since November. The fact that Pedterno and his minions put the goddamn State Penn football program above the safety and welfare of children is so beyond fucked up!

The only way I would consider not kicking them out of the Big Ten is if:

  1. They admitted priorities were and still are way out of line and suspended the football program for, say, 3 years.
  2. They would accept a probationary period of no less than 10 years where any little screw up could result in immediate expulsion.
  3. They recognize that academic inbreeding that they have taken to new levels there is frown upon by most institutions in this country (for good reason) and implement ways to change.
  4. They restructure their BOT so that kooks can't be elected to it.
  5. They remove that damn statue.
I never thought that an institution of higher education could see a scandal as bad as this!
