The past few episodes have been intense...add in Sig vs. Edgar also.

The first few seasons were filled with testosterone raging men on film for the first time. Every guy on every ship wanted to look like a relentless hardass who lived to fish. That all changed over the last year. Now we are seeing the mental toll these guys pay. The addition of the Kodiak has been excellent also...its good to see a Captain who doesn't have a solid crew or solid leadership qualities.

Yeah, really tough last couple of weeks... The Freddy Maugatai sequences on After the Catch this week were particularly moving I thought.

Also, the parts with Jonathan Hillstrand staying with Jake and Josh at the hospital I thought was cool... I mean, you don't know how close these guys are except for being on the same show.

All in all, I've been dreading Phil's death on the show since the news came out... but, it's been not so terrible, and I think the producers have handled it well.... and... kind of glad the camera guys weren't following him around when he collapsed.

The stuff with Freddy and John Hilstrand have been really good. Like what osugrad21 the past years have been about showing how badass these guys are. Now we are getting to see more about who they really are, not just fisherman. That's why I think this season has been the best yet. It's a shame that people have to die on their boats or in their families to see how these people really are. It might also be that they are finally starting to trust the camera crews and are now starting to open up to them more.

As far as Sig and Edgar go, I think Discovery might be making that out to be more than what it is. Edgar just seems like he's done with the fishing life. Discovery likes to show them as the hardass workaholics(which I'm sure they are). But how they have treated Jake with his fathers dissapperance, his sister's death and his sobriety it shows they aren't emotionless zombies.

Man, that was rough to watch...

I'd hate to have been his kids and friends when all the doctors were talking about how remarkable his recovery was. Then a couple of days later he passes away. I guess he just had things he wanted to say before he died and it looked like he got to do that.

The After the Catch mini series has been really good this year too.

That probably doesn't bode well for for the Time Bandit continuing on Deadliest Catch. From what I read I don't understand what the Hillstrands are doing. Have a film crew fly out and spend a day doing interviews that you got paid to do. Nobody is going to know who these guys are in 5 years so keep the 15 minutes running as long as you can. If not for Discovery these guys would be no name crap fishermen and Andy would probably still be out working the rail like Edgar.

Just for interviews ... the video itself has already been shot ... there must have been a major falling out between the cast and crew.

Sucks cuz I really loved Deadliest Catch.

There are a bunch of other crab boats out there. I'm sure they would jump at taking the Time Bandit's spot on the show.
