DE Will Smith (National Champion, Super Bowl Champion, Pro-bowler; R.I.P.)

Here's your shooter:
Cardell Hayes was booked on second-degree murder Sunday (April 10) in the shooting death of former Saints defensive end Will Smith, police said.

Sounds like a real upstanding citizen.
Hayes in 2014 pleaded guilty as a first-time offender to illegal carrying of a weapon as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced to six months probation.

From the comments:
High school Class of 2005 football DT prospect who never made it to next level, and ended up in drugs (you can see that the rivals.com picture is the same guy as the booking shot, and age works). Wonder if jealousy played a role in the rage in that confrontation. Either way, it's very sad. Prayers for the family of everyone involved.

Looks like a lawsuit was filed on his behalf against the NOLA police, alleging wrongful death of his father, and then settled in 2011.
The lawsuit filed on behalf of Hayes' son, Cardell, had sought $4 million in damages. A separate lawsuit filed on behalf of his daughter, Tyiece Baptiste-Howard, sought unspecified damages.

I've been on a self-imposed moratorium from all social media, including BP, for over a month, but I need to acknowledge this man's life and accomplishments. RIP Will and all sympathy to your family.

Just absolutely breaks my heart to hear this. Will was one of my all time favorite Buckeyes and he was such an incredible person off the field. Prayers for his family, we lost an incredible person today.

And to that POS that took his life, I truly hope you get what is coming to you in prison and regret this every single moment for the rest of your life.
