DE Solomon Thomas (official thread)

Glad to hear a kid what we've all known to be true for a long time...it is very easy to get "wined and dined" (per se) and to fall in love with a school while getting the royal treatment. But at the end of the day each one of these kids has to sift through all that stuff and make the best decision based on what they want out of their college experience. Having gone through this process myself (albeit for another sport) and being involved in the recruiting process (albeit for another sport) I know how challenging recruiting can be for these kids and I think we forget that some time. We forget what it is like to be 17 and having to make a life altering decision, sometimes without the aid of parental guidance or the helf of a coach (not all coaches are as hands on as others). I really think we need to acknowledge how tough this process can sometimes be and cut these kids a little slack from time to time. There is no doubt there are some kdis who enjoy this process way too much, but for every one of those, there are a dozen other kids who are scared to death about making the wrong decision and pissing someone off.

Nice job 45... That deserves a GPA...

Just from reading that, does it seem to anyone else that Solomon might be getting slow-played by the staff? I think we are seeing a change in the outlook of this class, and I think it's because the staff is starting to change directions a little... JMO of course from what I see year in and year out...

I think we've seen this kind of pattern before from the staff...lots of premier OOS recruits have the Buckeyes as their leader early in the game (AJ Wallace anyone?) but our staff (for better or for worse) does not seem to keep the pressure on the way other staffs do and do not resort to negative recruiting tactics. This leaves the door open and every year we see several supposed silents sign with other schools. As that happens, interest expands in kids that have been slow-played. I think Thomas may be a part of this class regardless, but you can bet if Still ends up in Happy Valley, they will turn up the heat on Thomas.

Reading comments from recruits it often sounds like the staff not only doesn't keep up the pressure, they don't keep up the basic contact that is needed with some of these kids. But given the way JT runs his program and his incredible attention to detail it is hard to believe that whatever contact takes place is not exactly what the staff intends - for whatever reason that might be.

It's like the old situation - the less you call a girl, the more she is going to want you. "Why isn't he calling? What did I do wrong?" Those are the significant others that you want, because they will try their hardest to make you happy. The others are high maintenance.
