DE Sam Hubbard (All B1G, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

Amazing career for Sam and flat out dominated in his final game against USC. Much respect for playing in that game and I too think he will murder it at the combines and move way up the draft boards...would not shock me if he moves up into the first half of the draft, Sam has incredible potential and really has production at high levels to prove it. Best of luck Sam, loved watching you play here!

Really happy to have Sam in Cincy. The combine 40 is such a stupid measurement, Hubbard is a freak athlete that has just started to refine his game and he has one of the highest ceilings of any player in the draft. He will be a stud in the NFL. Very happy to say welcome home twice to Mr. Sam Hubbard.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says Sam Hubbard is 'way ahead of the curve'
Mike Dyer

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis knew Sam Hubbard was a high-motor player who could grasp NFL schemes quickly.

So it's no surprise how well the Bengals rookie defensive end has learned team fundamentals this spring, from rookie minicamp and Organized Team Activities (OTAs) in May to mandatory minicamp this month.

“He has been way ahead of the curve,” Lewis told WCPO. “We’re just excited about that. He’s going to really complement and add to our football team right away. I’m just excited because he’s probably out here a little mature beyond his years right now.”

Lewis wants to see how Hubbard – like all rookies – makes the transition to pads when training camp opens in late July. From there, Hubbard will have an opportunity in preseason games to show his ability.

“He’ll be part of our rotation in the defensive line group,” Lewis said. “That’s what I see for him looking into the future, very early right away this year. That’s what we were looking for when we picked him.”

Obviously great news for Sam, but speaks greatly to LJ Sr's ability to prepare guys for the next level. A kid that started playing football late in high school at the safety position that left OSU early is now being called "ahead of the curve" at his position in the NFL. Really hope he starts to hit his potential early, getting a young boost in our edge rush to go with the emergence of Lawson and Willis as rush specialists would be huge. Bengals have some quality veteran DE's in Dunlap, Johnson, etc., but those guys are definitely getting up there in years. Great opportunity for Sam.

SAM HUBBARD'S FAMILY BREAKS BENGALS TEAM SHOP RECORDS FOR MOST CUSTOM JERSEY ORDERS

94904_h.jpg

Sam Hubbard hasn't played a snap in a Bengals uniform, but is already breaking records thanks to an outpouring of support from his family.

Hubbard's family broke a Bengals team shop record this offseason by ordering 164 custom jersey with his name and number on the back. It's an unmatched outpouring of support for Hubbard, a former Moeller High School standout returning to his home city to play professionally.

From WCPO.com:

“It’s unprecedented for us really for a player’s family to come and order that many jerseys all at once,” said Bengals Pro Shop Merchandise Manager Monty Montague. “So we were thrilled when they did, obviously. We are getting them produced as we speak, and they should be seeing them in the next couple of weeks.”

...

The order submitted July 16 depleted what the Pro Shop had in its inventory for customized jerseys. There already have been requests for a second order.

“We carry blank jerseys available for customized jerseys for any player and other names,” Montague said. “They went heavy and deep into some of our sizes that we had to order some more from Nike and get them to our embellishment company.”

Just sayin': (i.e. From WCPO.com), the 5 time winner of the Buckeye Newshawk Award missed the scoup on this one....
