DE Noah Spence (Official Thread)

This really sucks, but the team will be ok. Hopefully Miller, Frazier, et. al. are recognizing this opportunity for what it is and are champing at the bit to show that they can be the man.

Will be interesting to watch the rotation at that end now. Looking toward next year, one would think that we'll see more of Lewis, Holmes, and/or Slade this year than we originally thought. Makes commits Cornell, Jones, and Alabi (although he may end up at DT or OL) that much more important. Not too mention a certain recruit named Josh Sweat.

Hope Noah gets it together somehow, somewhere...

I'm in disbelief that a young man that is nine months away from a multi-million dollar payday can't walk the straight and narrow with one strike already against him, but also know that the influences and urges of college life are overwhelming. I sincerely hope he gets his life back together and overcomes his demons, and he gets the opportunity to transfer somewhere closer to home to earn a degree, salvage his playing career, and escape whatever bad influences he's currently surrounded himself with.

I'm hoping it's just a weed issue. That stuff is easier to overcome than the hardcore stuff. Unless he really likes the devil's lettuce, he can always transfer to CO or WA.

Both failed drug tests point to Molly (MDMA), which isn't as easy as passing the water bong around the circle or excusing yourself from the party. He needs professional help to recover.

Drug addiction is not an intelligence issue, especially for the drug he has apparently tested positive for yet again. Don't bash.
Agreed, that is why the rule mentioned above is confusing. I understand for PEDs, but with the hardcore recreational drugs it's more about working with them to help get them off of it. Give them a goal, and let them stick around where they're at if it's a good support structure and the family wants to. This pretty much forces him to move to a new school, adding more stress to his life.

I'm just not very sensitive to the addiction issue. I bristle at the "disease" moniker because addiction is something that can be avoided unlike, say, cancer. Noah never had to try whatever it is he tried in order to become an addict. He chose to do that. To me that's a stupid choice. I think any honest addict would agree that they have made some stupid choices in life. I'm sorry if I offended anyone but that's how I feel about this particular topic.

Art Schlichter actually helped solidify my beliefs... he had the world by the ass but his demons were so insurmountable he threw it away .. several times
proved I have no grasp or ability to empathize just how monstrous those demons are .. this is more proof as is Josh Gordon

No idea what Molly or ecstasy or crack are.. but addiction is addiction... alcohol, meds, gambling, abuse... and some studies indicate it's linked to your DNA

I never dealt with an addiction because I had the 'luxury' of seeing very strong friends deal with them... scared me enuf to know 'don't go there cuz you don't know how you will deal' .. but 19 yrs old, you're generally bullet proof and you know you can handle anything

If losing out on a major bowl game and now in severe danger of never seeing the NFL for a kid of superstar skills... are proof, this is much more than a 'I made a stupid choice' .. and most of us have a list of 'stupid choices in life' we'd like to have back

I totally understand what your saying and I have seen people that have lost everything as a result of these choices as well. I chose not to engage in these activities because I didn't want to close future doors on myself. You did too. I'd wager to say that neither of us had as much to lose monetarily as Noah Spence. Yet we still made a choice not to do it. That's my point: don't make these choices to begin with and you don't have to worry about becoming an addict.
