Noah Spence commits to Ohio Stat
By Jared Shanker
ESPN Recruiting Nation

For the last several months, Noah Spence's plan was to make an announcement at the Under Armour All-American Game. And up until three weeks ago, Ohio State wasn't going to be one of the hats on the table.

On Sunday, during an official visit to Ohio State, though, Spence, a five-star defensive end ranked No. 4 overall nationally, committed to the Buckeyes -- the program's third ESPNU 150 commit in just a week.

Chris Knight, Patriot News Noah Spence committed to Ohio State, which wasn't even on his radar until new coach Urban Meyer contacted him.

"It just felt right -- the family atmosphere, the great coaches," Spence said shortly after leaving the Ohio State campus. "The players want to win and the coaches want to win, and they're trying to build something that I want to be a part of. ...

"I wanted to get it out the way. It felt right, so, you know, why not?"

Before the season, Spence (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) named a top seven, and Ohio State wasn't on the list. Penn State was the favorite to land him, but the child sex-abuse scandal at the university jumbled Spence's leaderboard as new teams began to enter the fold.

Still, Ohio State didn't become a factor until Urban Meyer was named coach on Nov. 28, and Meyer got in touch with Spence shortly after he was hired. Spence had never visited Ohio State before this weekend.

"I wasn't really into them a lot," Spence said. "As I got to learn about the staff and what they're trying to do and how close it is to my home, it felt like a fit."

Throughout his recruitment, Spence maintained whichever school he chose had to feel like a second home; Spence is one of nine sons to Greg and Helen Spence. During his official visit, Spence said it was the non-football discussions with the Buckeyes staff that sold him.

"Everyone was talking about their own families and everything like regular people," Spence said. "Everything wasn't about football. That made me feel comfortable. ...

"It wasn't so much what (the coaches) were saying. It was the players who pretty much matched with what the coaches were saying. It wasn't like it was fake or anything."

Bishop McDevitt DE Noah Spence found what he was looking for at Ohio State

ANDREW P. SHAY, The Patriot-News, December 18, 2011

Bishop McDevitt defensive end Noah Spence finally found what he was looking for.

Sunday night before leaving Columbus, Ohio the 6-4, 245-pound five-star recruit gave new Ohio State coach Urban Meyer a verbal commitment.

?I?m so happy. I just felt so comfortable,? Spence told The Patriot-News Sunday night as he and his family made the trip home from Ohio. ?It was all beginning to be too much. I?m more happy than relieved. I found what I was looking for at Ohio State.?

Spence, the player most consider the No. 1 prospect at his position in the country, chose Ohio State over Penn State, LSU, Florida, Notre Dame, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Maryland and USC among others.

?We did a lot of homework before we went up there. Once we got there, everything just fell in line,? Spence?s father Greg said. ?The emphasis on family and faith is very important. It was starting to get hectic for him and our family.

?We?ve seen quite a few coaches and schools. Why wait any longer? I?m proud of him. And he seems to happy and content, it?s just beautiful.?

I remeber watching LSU this year(I still hate the SEC) and I thought " I wander what it would be like to have a DLine like theirs." Now OSU will get to find out!! Bennett will have a break out year along with the Sandmand... Who do you focus on? It will certainly make the linebacker job more fun.. Schutt and Big hank with a ton of speed and athletes on the outside... rediculous.. I remember how mad I was about losing FLoyd.. Now I get to be on the other side of that battle... Now we need to flip Dodson and add Diamond and it will get even better!! I seriously may need to wear depends if he flips the alabama qb to boot....

Does Kyle Kailas want to have to face a rotation of Nathan Williams, Washington, and Noah Spence in The Game? They could mess up his stats and cost him millions on draft day.

Does Kyle Dodson want to face this same rotation?

Time to flip. If you cannot beat them, join them.

UFM, aka Urban "The Flipper" Meyer, could have an amazing career at McDonalds flipping burgers. Holy Big Mac batman! Urban the Flipper makes Jack the Ripper seem like much less of a menace, demoting him to the ranks of right the famous artist "Jack the Dripper".

Along the same lines, going back many years to the Woody Era, there was a TV show called "Flipper", about a dolphin. I might checkout some reruns out down at the library.
