I think we've already got a good sense of the real Ryan Day but a lot of people are hoping it isn't true.
yes. and the way Day's QB's always seem to fall just a few tads short in the national spotlight, when things are on the line shows the same thing. like coach, like protege QB.
the only question mark for me right now is what was the working relationship really like between Day and Wilson, and whether the post-Wilson offense will look more like the 1st quarter offense or the 2nd quarter offense? i have a strong suspicion it's going to look like the 2nd quarter offense, but, let's see.
as well, now, we're seeing another young (and relatively inexperienced) assistant get promoted. it makes three in a row... Dennis, Fleming, Bailey. definitely a signal and a big shift away from whatever Wilson brought to the table, and another clue that maybe Wilson and Day didn't always see eye-to-eye when it comes to how to run the x's and o's of the offense.
it will also be interesting to see what Alford does in the offseason, because i don't suspect that he stays exactly where he is position / salary wise.
a BUNCH of speculation from a guy who knows absolutely jack about whatever is/was going on at the WHAC... but i figure it's open season to bloviate like this in the new era of professional collegiate sports.
EDIT: another piece of the puzzle, for me, is that day brought in Knowles knowing that he wants nothing to do with managing the defense. i think that was a good call. but on the offensive side it's looking like Day isn't going in that direction - ie no hint at an interest in going outside the program to bring in a big name. which means that he likely has no intention of letting go the the reins on how the offense runs. i hope i'm wrong and the offseason might show that, but, again... we'll see.
wrong thread, wrong time of the year, utter speculation, meh...
