on a serious note I am extremely happy with the Vrabel hire. Always been 1 of my favorite Buckeyes. Welcome home Mike!

:oh:

I honestly don't understand how any person could find fault with this hire, especially at this moment in OSU's tumultuous present. Obviously former players all have to start somewhere in their coaching careers, so Vrabel is either the most-qualified Graduate Assistant coach ever, or maybe you can take a flyer on him as a position coach... for one of the nation's most-talented defenses... with all other veteran coaches around him... two months before the season. This is a match made in heaven for both Coach Vrabel and OSU.

Yeah, that Bill Bilichick knows nothing when he says that Mike Vrabel will make a great coach.

Let's listen to an out-of-work farmer (who no longer works in the media and has a criminal past).

Not worth the bickering back and forth for not being a blind homer all the time during the current issues surrounding the program.

Yet you can find plenty of time to defend shoddy journalism. :roll1:

Vrabel says lockout isn't why he retired
Linebacker hired by Ohio State to coach linebackers Aaron Wilson
July 12, 2011

Although Mike Vrabel's decision to retire and join the Ohio State coaching staff as linebackers coach might have seemed abrupt, the veteran linebacker had essentially made up his mind in January after the Kansas City Chiefs' playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

?I thought in January when we lost to the Ravens that I had played my last down in the NFL," Vrabel told ESPN Dallas, per SportsRadioInterviews.com. "Whether the league resumed in March, I don?t know if I would have felt any better or any worse, but I?m comfortable with this decision. It?s certainly exciting, it?s a new challenge, it?s something that?s going to give me something to do and something I want to do.?

Vrabel said he was honored to be praised by New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

?Well it?s humbling, it?s flattering," Vrabel said. "I think a lot of what I?m going to do and these these guys is going to come from Bill, it?s going sound like Bill, and hopefully if I can join that coaching tree of guys that have worked with Bill to go on to be great coaches either in college or in the NFL, hopefully I can be one of those guys.?

Vrabel said he won't be focused on the NCAA inquiry at the Buckeyes program.

?Well our compliance office is doing a great job educating our players and continuing to educate them," he said. "There?s weekly meetings. We?re not going take our frustration out on the guys on our team that are doing the right thing. It?s just not fair to those guys. I?m coming in, I told these guys they?ve got a clean slate with me on the field, off the field, we?re starting new and I?ll evaluate them on their performance from this day going forward. The head coach and the defensive coordinator may have other plans, but that?s what I told these guys when I met with them.?

Ohio State notes: Vrabel makes presence felt on first day
Published: Monday, August 08, 2011

COLUMBUS ? It didn't take long for Mike Vrabel to make his presence felt on Monday.

Or maybe the better word is "heard."

In his first practice as Ohio State's linebackers coach, Vrabel was active and vocal. His voice resonated above all others at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center as he challenged players on the defensive side of the ball.

New head coach Luke Fickell smiled when asked if he noticed his former teammate on the practice field on Monday.

"I try never to pay a whole lot of attention to him," Fickell said with a chuckle.

Vrabel's addition to the coaching staff gives Ohio State six former Buckeyes football players with the program, led, of course, by Fickell, who still owns the school record with 50 consecutive starts between 1993 and '96.

Other former Buckeyes on board: tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator John Peterson (1987-90), offensive quality control assistant Kirk Barton (2004-07) and strength and conditioning coaches Anthony Schlegel (2004-05) and Jeff Uhlenhake (1985-88).

"He fit in just fine, I'm sure," Fickell said of Vrabel. "You could see that the guys take to him. The coaches have taken to him. But again we're not trying to focus on any one person or any one player or any one coach. It's not about me. We're just going to continue to talk about the team."
