S/O to @cdiddy70 for making the thread
And it feels weird even saying this about a kid that’s so freaking talented, but I wonder if he’s a plan B to the Big 3 DEs. And/or they feel confident about 1 of the 3, and have a strong possibility of getting this kid with them. The 1st step is insane!

https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...r-joshua-mickens-picked-lsu-2023/10027931002/

Mickens, who led Lawrence Central with 23 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks as a junior, eventually attracted more than two dozen Power Five offers
:yow2:

For the most part, (LSU) sees me as a hybrid (linebacker),” Mickens said. “I can also drop back into coverage and just be an athlete on the field and have different things in the toolbox. I think I can pass rush and also be able to drop back into coverage. That’s ultimately where my decision came from. I think they’ll use me in different ways.”
Sounds like a Jack player to me

Another IN elite football player, who’s also a good basketball player. We haven’t seen that before:blush:

Seems like the staff typically offers kids committed elsewhere only if they feel there’s a legit chance at flipping them. Add to that he’s now scheduled an official for The Game, is that the vibe around the WHAC?
Seems like that's a smart objective no? Why waste time on kids you 100% know aren't coming to Columbus? This is the way

They have to like their chances after he’s willing to decommit from a team that surprisingly won the SECw

It was just an observation I’ve noticed over time, as opposed to teams like ttun who offer kids they should know they have zero shot at. Bama does it time to time I think just to ruffle feathers around the WHAC. And I’m sure a lot of other programs “waste time” on committed recruits. But kudos for deciphering my riddle of a post.

C/O of 11W:

Now that the Mickens info is public, this is the player that I was alluding to in my posts end of October when I said we've got someone coming our way on the defense. I'm decently close to this situation, so here is the short version: LSU ended up not being the greatest fit for him, so he wanted to look around at other schools. He's basically been decommitted from LSU for awhile now in private. OSU and its new defense was his top target and he wants to be used in that standup DE role. OSU wanted to make sure he was serious before extending the offer. So here we are and unless something odd happens he's in the class. As BG says, put him in pen.

If true, then this is a massive win! If Mickens lived in the south, and not in IN, I think his ranking would've been A LOT higher! Like Caden Curry the year before, IN is one of those states where their talent doesn't always get the benefit of the doubt(Pete Warner and Terry McLaurin also come to mind). Mickens in the Jack role, and then have Wilson(will need to bulk up) and/or MU play the JT hands in the dirt role.

I love the potential here with Mickens and Wilson. pnuts are you thinking we are still on the outside looking in for Keeley? Has that boat sailed for us? Wilson and MU is an unbelievable pull just curious on any last efforts to get that momentum back.

The thing with Keeley, is the reported Uncle, who has al NIL talks going through him, and has been adamant about Keon getting upfront NIL money(and it's even been rumored that he's been cashing checks through Bama's Red Elephant collective as an advisor). Keon himself may want to go to OSU, but that money is speaking LOUDLY! And best of luck to him

If OSU were to get 2-3 of Mickens, Wilson and MU, then that arguably a top 3 DL class to go with the DTs we have already! LSU doesn't go to places like IN for DL, so Mickens has to be good. It's a down year for DL in LA this year, and the highest rated one in the state is heading to Auburn. Kelly has been trying to use his midwest and east coast ties for DL.
