DE Jamel Turner (Butler Community College; transfer to Akron)

Turner is a beast! As mentioned earlier, the scary thing is that he is just scratching the surface. Despite being a smaller school, Ursuline plays top knotch competition all year round, so Turner is battle tested for sure.

Let me preface this stating that this is my first post on this site. I will also say that I've followed recruiting extremely closely for the past 24-30 months or so, watched hundreds of prospects videos, and have a pretty solid football background.

With that said, I think that Jamel Turner is a top 10 prospect for 2010, an absolute stud. I just watched his highlight video, and it compelled me to actually register for this site that I look at several times per day, but have never actually felt the need to join. He is fast, sheds blocks well, quick first step, and has a high football IQ. Just watch when he drops into the flats to defend against an RB bubble or screen, he just seems to know what he's doing all the time. He's a stud, and hopefully he wants to be a Buckeye...

Welcome, nice first post.

Turner obviously looks very good. He seems like a sure fire early offer. However, I am curious where he actually fits in in college. Unless he grows quite a bit (possible since he is still young), he may be a bit small to play DE every down. Could he be a LB?

He could end up being a guy like Thaddeus Gibson who takes some time to find a place. I like Thaddeus also and think he is a good player. A guy I'm glad to have on my team. But, he isn't a top 10, instant impact type guy.

I guess my question for those who know more about these type of things is, how do you rank a guy in the top 10 nationally if you aren't quite sure what position he ends up at and if he will be an early impact guy?

Turner has some bad tendencies, spinning the people he is tackling, and some areas for improvements, quicker first step, but if he could improve the little things I could see him as mabye even the top prospect in 2010. All he needs to do is bulk up and put up even more sacks and I can't see how he wouldn't be top 10

Since I'm new, I'm also going to state that I typically agree with you, think that you have some solid logic as far as football goes, and have enjoyed reading your opinions for the past year or so (when you really made some noise on this site).

To me though, still, Jamel Turner is a top 10 talent. I'm aware of your concern to his size, but he's only a Sophomore, at least in these highlights. He looks every bit for 215 pounds, and can easily gain 25-30 pounds of muscle in the next several years. The thing is, he is already tall enough to play DE at the best level, and if he only gains 25 pounds he's at least a taller version, but not quite yet a stronger verson of big Vern. I love Turner's athleticism for his size, he's a pure speed rush DE at this point, but has the option of turning into a LEO type for OSU. We'll see what happens, but needless to say, he's a top 10 talent in my book (not that that means anything, yet)

Turner to compete in state championship in 110 Hurdles...

Ursuline sophomore Jamel Turner displayed the same freakish athleticism he showed during football season by winning the 110 hurdles. Turner, an all-Ohio defensive end who also plays forward for the basketball team, credited his hurdling coach, Art Carter, for his development.

?I was pretty confident,? he said. ?I just focused on my lane, that?s it.?

URSULINE’S TURNER WINS 110 HURDLES: Ursuline sophomore Jamel Turner won the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.78.

He held off East Palestine’s Jeff Farkas, who ran 15.07.

‘‘I was pretty confident,’’ Turner said. ‘‘I knew it was going to be a two-man race.’’

That's just stupid! How do you have a DE winning in the 110 hurdles!?! This kid is a freak! Just needs to put on some weight and keep that speed and an offer will be coming soon for the youngin!
