. I don't think Tressel would be in the wrong to revoke the scholly, however I also think that Jamel can do a lot of growing up at Ohio State and maybe just needs to get out of Youngstown for that maturity to happen. Combine that with the confusion inherent in this shooting incident, and for me, I am very slow to come to any sort of verdict on what to think of this.

Jamel DID have the opportunity to get out of Youngstown when he was sent to Fork Union and HE blew that. Exactly how many opportunities should someone be given to "mature" before they have to start taking responsibility for thier own actions? He made the choice to go back to Youngstown, he also made the choice to get into the car with an ex con who has drug and weapons charges. I for one hope he gets his life together, but I also dont think he seems like the kind of young man that you would want to take a risk on either. My opinion doesnt matter of course, but that is just my thought on the matter.

Should not be overlooked...if you're trying to cast someone in a bad light via guilt by association.

Perhaps the driver and Jamel are true friends. Would a true friend abandon a friend in need or stand by him? If that's the case, then I'd commend Jamel for standing by his friend no matter what.

If one of your true friends made a mistake and was convicted for a crime...any crime...would you stand by your friend or give up on him/her? ...
I would stand by a friend but I would also not be dumb enough to put myself in a situation with that same friend where drugs and guns are involved. You seem to be overlooking that big piece of information when you are trying to state your arguement.

So wait if the driver claimed the items to protect his friend, that would make the drugs and the gun Jamel's then right? Exactly...

Jamal didn't get shot. Better check those facts again...

From numerous reports Jamel DID get shot, in the hip and the ankle so you better check your facts again....

Human beings pick their friends...there is some choice in the matter...

Quite honestly, he should get as many chances as needed as long as he does not become convicted or seriously charged of a crime and as long as he is not a drain of excess university resources or character. While we have no idea what happened with Fork Union, lets assume it was his fault and a result of bad decisions. How does he have a choice to go back to Youngstown or not?? Where was he supposed to go so that he could graduate high school? It's his home. So when you leave your situation in another state, you typically go home, yes?

I don't know you, but for me, if I got kicked out of college, I would have moved back in with my folks at home. Just because home is really a bad area shouldn't in and of itself, be a bad decision. I just don't understand the reaction to basically pronounce him guilty of whatever it was that he was doing and revoke the scholarship offer. He hasn't even been enrolled yet and (outside of the typical recruiting costs) Ohio State hasn't lost any monetary value on this "risk".

At this point, to me anyway, it doesn't really matter. I seriously doubt a convicted felon who didn't learn enough the first time (since he was busted for guns and drugs) wasn't just randomly driving around to get some fresh air and enjoy life when 3 random bullets found their way into the car.

and i dont buy your whole rap about "true friends"...

I'm just trying to get people to realize that there's more to the story. We don't know the whole situation and shouldn't chastise Jamel as a result---especially based on the actions of someone other than Jamel.

Before entering any car, do you ask to search the vehicle? If not, then you just may be dumb enough to put yourself in a similar situation.

No. The drugs may have belonged to Jamal. Again, I don't know and neither do you, so Jamel shouldn't be cast in a negative light.

I never claimed Jamel did not get shot. You need to read more carefully...
