DE Jamal Marcus (Official Thread)

Thank you Jamal for proving me wrong and playing with your hair on fire. Im not as worried about spence sitting out the first few games now. Marcus definitely made His mark on the d line. Will provide awesome depth. Imagine a DE rotation in 2014 of spence, bosa, Washington, Marcus, miller, and tyquan lewis. That's some depth

Looks to be a permanent fixture on this defense for a while now. I wouldn't mind seeing what Spence might look like at OLB with some blitz packages and shallow coverage responsibilities. Get the best 11 on the field. Well done Mr Marcus on the big stage.

At the very least:
- Spence and Jamal will push each other with competition
- there will be depth in case of injuries or "we are number one salutes"
- neither will be tired at the end of the fourth quarter or fourth overtime

JAMAL MARCUS, BRANDON OJIKUTU DISMISSED FROM OHIO STATE FOR VIOLATION OF TEAM RULES

Junior defensive end Jamal Marcus and junior wide receiver Brandon Ojikutu have been dismissed from the Ohio State football team for violation of team rules, sources told Eleven Warriors.

Marcus recorded six tackles in the Orange Bowl, where he was thrust into the starting lineup after Noah Spence’s suspension. For the season, Marcus had 21 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

He was expected to provide depth throughout the season, especially during Spence’s two-game suspension to begin the season. But Marcus was conspicuously quiet during the spring, taking reps with the second and third-team defense. The final two weeks were spent on the sidelines due to academic constraints.

Backups Steve Miller, Tyquan Lewis and Rashad Frazier all took reps ahead of Marcus at some point in the spring.

As a freshman, Marcus tallied eight tackles, mostly as a special teamer.

Ojikutu, a walk on from Cleveland, Ohio, joined the team in 2012.

Ohio State did not immediately respond to request for comment.

NOT dismissed from the team, according to Bill Rabinowitz of the Dispatch. Transferring on his own due to difficulty with the coursework.
Not fantastic but at least better for him that way. Sometimes it is too much for these guys and they have to do what they have to do. He'll land somewhere else and be a beast I'm sure if he can get the academics sorted out.

See link....

Ohio State is fairly deep at defensive line, but one backup player will be leaving the program in search of a better situation. The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday Jamal Marcus plans to transfer away from Ohio State.

According to the report, Marcus missed practice time this spring while focusing on academic concerns. Earlier in the day Eleven Warriors reported Marcus had been dismissed for a violation of team rules, but The Dispatch is reporting his departure is a mutual decision instead.

Well this sucks, Marcus looked great in the Orange Bowl and was a key rotational piece, especially with Spence being suspended. Good thing Tyquan Lewis had a strong spring, we will need him to step up in a big way. May also open the door for Holmes to get PT earlier than expected.

Ohio State is pretty well stocked on the DL, but Jamal looked like he could be an impact player.

It seems to me that he could have been told that he was being dismissed for violation of team rules (not meeting academic requirements would fall under that umbrella), he said he would like to transfer, and the powers that be decided to let that be the narrative of his exit.

Regardless, it's sad. We are denied the opportunity to see a potential star for the Buckeyes, and there's no guarantee that Jamal will solve his problems in another place.
