The much-anticipated match-up between perennial powers Oscar Smith and Lake Taylor on Sept. 6 will be televised on ESPNU, Lake Taylor athletic director Bobby Pannenbacker confirmed Thursday.

While this will be Oscar Smith's fourth time on an ESPN network, the Titans will be playing on national television for the first time.

"This game right here is our chance to show the nation how good we are," said Lake Taylor star defensive end Jalyn Holmes, who recently committed to Ohio State.

This game has been billed as a must-see match-up since its announcement months ago. It gained more steam when ESPNU picked it up in what may the biggest season opener ever in Norfolk. Both teams are nationally ranked. All the pre-game hype ends at 8 p.m. - kickoff.

Lake Taylor (15-0 last year) The Titans are coming off the school's first state football title, the first in Norfolk since 1966. They are led by defensive end and Ohio State commit Jalyn Holmes.

Oscar Smith looks to be a far better team, but Jalyn looks good personally. Great build for his height and has that "long" look to his frame. Will be able to add even more weight given time. He's had hurries and pressure, it also seems like Oscar Smith is going away from his side.

About of frustration when your team is getting dominated. Not a good look for jaylyn. I hope he grows up and matures as his season progresses, that won't be tolerated by coach vrabel and fickell.

Football | What we learned Friday

. . .
Things got worse in the third quarter when star TE/DE Jalyn Holmes, committed to Ohio State, was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct. He's likely to miss the Titans' next two games - vs. Amherst County and Norview - under Virginia High School League rules.
