No one said he was a poor coach or recruiter
I didn't say they did. I said many doubted his hire.

I think many questioned how they could root for a guy after rooting against him for so long. I doubt anyone questioned his qualifications. His recruiting methods, based on stories perhaps, but not his ability to coach or recruit.
Like I said, people questioned the hire. I never said people questioned his coaching and recruiting ability. The fact that everyone is asked to trust the coaches regarding recruits and game management, but not when it comes to hires it quite funny. I think Urban knows what he's doing
Some people did question it. Not b/c of his ability as a coach/recruiter but b/c of the rumors of negatively recruiting against OSU (I believe it was black player graduation rates).Yeah, um... OK. Frankly, I'm lost in your he said / he said.
I'm out.
I think the point here is that the undisputed fact that Larry Johnson Sr. is an effective D-line coach and recruiter does not in any way contradict the concerns some people initially expressed over his hiring, since those concerns had nothing to do with any perceived lack of effectiveness as a D-line coach or recruiter.Like I said, people questioned the hire. I never said people questioned his coaching and recruiting ability...
OK, so to get this thread back on topic, I don't know the extent to which shedding the black stripe is based on the frosh demonstrating he's ready to play on Saturdays, vs. being based on demonstrating great effort in practice. Or something else.I think Larry Johnson Sr. chatter belongs in the Larry Johnson Sr. thread.
I think it's more showing how well you're doing in terms of showing great effort, playing fast 4-6 seconds every play, etc. Ironically my wife says this does not apply to me which is BS but that's another day. I'm also sure off the field stuff is taken into consideration.OK, so to get this thread back on topic, I don't know the extent to which shedding the black stripe is based on the frosh demonstrating he's ready to play on Saturdays, vs. being based on demonstrating great effort in practice. But I will say this: in my opinion, Darius Slade is a truly kick-ass name for a speed-rushing, quarterback-crushing defensive end. Or a Mike Hammer/Shaft private detective.
Great effort = fine; 4 to 6 seconds = not so fine.I think it's more showing how well you're doing in terms of showing great effort, playing fast 4-6 seconds every play, etc. Ironically my wife says this does not apply to me which is BS but that's another day. I believe walkon WR Joe Ramsetter was the first--or one of the first--last year, fwiw.OK, so to get this thread back on topic, I don't know the extent to which shedding the black stripe is based on the frosh demonstrating he's ready to play on Saturdays, vs. being based on demonstrating great effort in practice. Just because I need to play Dave Chapelle whenever applicable:Great effort = fine; 4 to 6 seconds = not so fine.
