DE Darius Slade (transfer to Arizona State, transfer to South Florida)

It's OT and we can move to another thread but I don't feel like we're losing 4 starters necessarily as Boren was playing half the game or more for a good chunk of the season and I have no worries about him as starter, and I saw Elflein perform very, very well in both the scUM and CCG games. It was a more a connection of Slade and Taylor being developmental guys that I feel very confident in with their respective line coaches.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I more than agree with what you said about Taylor and Slade, bth projects with huge upsides and have great position coaches to bring out their potential

Report: Michigan State receives commit from New Jersey DE Darius Slade day after Urban Meyer visit

Slade told NJ.com on Thursday that he was aware the Spartans will be hosting another defensive end this week on a visit, so it's possible that may have triggered him to fill one of the final spots in the Michigan State Class of 2014.

"… they have a d-end taking a visit there this weekend,'' Slade told NJ.com, "and I hear he is a big name kid. So I don't know if he's gonna commit this weekend or what the situation may be."

From a Rivals article:

Slade sent Spartanmag.com a text saying:

"Yes, I am a Spartan. Go Green Baby"

I see an NFL first rounder and potentially a number 1 overall recruit in the big ten in 2014, assuming his grades are in order, puts in the work to fill in his frame, and great DL coaching. I hope our folks have not given up. If he stays in msu, good for them, but I'd rather see him on this side.

Yeah, you may be reaching a little man. Osu is fine with or without him

We will be fine of course, but DL recruiting in 2014 is a grade C at best, so far. We had an event with Holley and then the loss of Vrabel seemed to kill the momentum going into the final stretch. I don't think Ohio State has one on the roster that can be a dominant game-takeover DLman. They will all get better, but was hoping to land a couple of huge ones in the middle this year to build around for few years. Maybe next year.

Do you mean currently on the roster, or in this class? Because at the very least we have one in bosa, possibly 2 or 3 more.

Have you been actually following the 2014 class? Jalyn holmes alone is worth at least a grade B. He dominated the Army AA game and tore it up this season. Check out the stat line he had in one of his last games, tremendous! And Dylan Thompson is ridiculously underrated and has versatility to play inside or outside. Slade is a nice under the radar prospect but he was still a plan c to be honest. And would've redshirted this upcoming season to get up to speed witb the college game. Slade is a nice project but a stretch to say 1st round talent

And as far as not havimg dominant D lineman already, bosa, Bennett and spence would disagree... I do think our d line was one of the top in the nation with sacks
