DE Chase Young (Nagurski, Hendricks, Bednarik, Silver Football, NFL DROY, New Orleans Saints)

I take anything Kirk Herbstreit says about insider knowledge with a grain of salt. He is always desperate to pretend that he is a big-time Ohio State insider and former standout.

I'll let you decide where he fits as an "sports personality". Here is where he ranks as a QB.

Joe Bauserman career QBR 114.5 7 TDS 2 Int
Kirk Herbstreit career QBR 113.5 5 TDS 11 Int

This is the greatest statistical comparison in the history of statistical comparisons.

In the meantime, someone else (Chase-in-training) is going to fill in for Chase (not fill his current shoes) and remind the rest of the NCAA that there’s always the next guy who is going to eventually (not right now) be the next top 5 NFL draft pick (something else in parentheses.)

More snaps for Zach Harrison. Good luck, Terps.

What’s going on here with Chase is part of what is killing college football for me. I love my Buckeyes, but the cost of going to a game is out of control. The playoff setup is a cluster fuck. And the ridiculous rules that govern the players are beyond antiquated.

Not just antiquated

These were rules based on a set of values that revered amateurism because professional athletes were so working-class. It was an incredibly elitist world view.

I’m not one for judging previous generations’ values. Personally, I believe that doing so is its own brand of bigotry. But it’s a fact that we don’t live by those values anymore, outside of the ncaa

Here's my take. Rules are rules. If Tom Skladany and Ray Griffin wouldn't accept a pencil or sheet of paper to use (or even borrow) in our business school syndicate--because they didn't want any allegation of improper benefits back in the 1970s--then Chase had to know that was wrong. It appears he paid back the short-term loan from a friend, but he should have asked before he took it. So, I have no problem with a one-game suspension.

Rules are rules and that means rules must be fairly applied. I am tired of the SEC cheating financially and Ohio State playing strictly by the book. If they suspend this kid for four games and Ohio State does not react violently, I will no longer have anything to do with the University and that includes the legacy in my will. I feel that Urban Meyer was treated badly and I am sure that I am not alone in my thoughts on this.
